Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) - Cardiothoracic Surgery-Surgical APP (PerDiem)

Summary: A Physician Assistant functions as part of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in accordance with privileges approved by the credentialing committee to provide high quality, cost‑effective care to patients within the APP’s scope of practice in collaboration with a supervising physician. The APP reflects the mission, vision, and values of the organization, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and other regulatory and accreditation standards. Responsibilities Clinical: Obtains relevant health and medical history, performs thorough physical assessment, reviews and interprets pertinent diagnostic tests and results, develops appropriate differential diagnoses, implements treatment plans including prescribing/ordering evidence‑based pharmacological agents, schedules appropriate follow‑up, incorporates evidence‑based hospital initiatives, conducts preventive health screening, maintains clear and concise records, maintains knowledge of disease and pathology, updates specialty literature, derives correct diagnoses, revises plan of care, prioritizes work, maintains productivity, leads projects to improve productivity, performs medical procedures consistent with guidelines. Education: Appropriately and professionally educates clients/families regarding medical condition, treatment, and follow‑up; collaborates with clinicians, staff, and students; develops educational materials; provides education to physicians, housestaff, nursing, ancillaries, and students; recognizes and participates in self‑learning needs; attends education programs. Leadership: Provides instruction to physicians, housestaff, nursing, ancillaries, and students via precepting, shadowing, lectures, training, CE, rounds, morning report, staff meetings; participates in community/network outreach programs; develops/leads outreach; demonstrates understanding of contexts and systems and applies knowledge to improve health‑care delivery; leads or participates in systems improvements. Professional: Interacts with patients and families respectfully, courteously, and timely; collaborates with coworkers; responds quickly to meet customer needs; accepts responsibility for outcomes; shares workload with team. Quality/Research: Engages in continuous quality improvement, identifies and implements processes, consults with management, leads interdisciplinary teams, initiates and revises protocols, influences policy‑making, develops new clinical programs or services. Qualifications Education Requirements: Completion of an accredited graduate‑level Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA) program. Licensure/Certification Requirements: Licensed as an Advanced Practice Provider in the state of North Carolina; board certification if required by the Department; DEA registration. Professional Experience Requirements: No prior experience required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Demonstrated clinical competency; effective leadership; strong interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively; strong written and verbal communication; strong analytical skills; effective interaction ensuring successful patient care; documentation for accurate billing.
