For information about benefits, please follow the link Summary Under direction, has the immediate responsibility for the management of the school plant, building operations, property, and grounds. The work involves maintaining prescribed sanitary, safety, and operating standards and the security of a school plant. General and special instructions are received from the school principal or designee; technical supervision and guidance is received from the area building services supervisor. Responsibilities Supervise building service staff and, where applicable, plant equipment operators. Ensure the upkeep of custodial and grounds care equipment, including automatic scrubbers, burnishers, snow blowers, and hydraulic lifts. Maintain human and material resources to ensure quality service and a safe environment. Operate central heating plants and perform minor adjustments and service repairs. Train, assign, supervise, and inspect the work of subordinates. Maintain records of time and materials, prepare routine reports, and evaluate performance. Use computer technology to order supplies, process maintenance work orders, and communicate with administrators and other staff. Serve as emergency personnel, reporting to buildings during inclement weather and potentially to other locations for emergency assistance. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Advanced knowledge of methods, materials, and practices used in building service work. Proficiency in operating custodial and grounds care equipment. Knowledge of safe, efficient procedures for operating central heating plants. Understanding of emergency response procedures, including code red/blue, fire code regulations, and inclement weather procedures. Strong human relations and communication skills. Ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS). MCPS written test required. Education, Training, and Experience High School or GED diploma required. Experience in general cleaning of buildings and grounds. Possession of a current and valid boiler certificate and stationary engineers license preferred. Completion of the MCPS Building Manager Test at the required score.
