Emp Status Regular Full time Compensation Range The base pay scale for this position is $71,564.06 - $78,010.40. In addition, this position will be eligible for additional benefits consistent with the role. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to: scope of role, level of experience, education, accomplishments, internal equity, budget, and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation. What you will be doing Job Description: Postdoctoral Fellow – Niewold Lab Department/Service: Research Institute Job Start Date: 1/2025 Summary A Postdoctoral Fellow position in the Rheumatology Division is available in the laboratory of Dr. Timothy Niewold at the Hospital for Special Surgery affiliated with Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City. The main focus of the lab is to understand the genetic pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases. This position will involve state‑of‑the‑art molecular and genomic approaches and patient‑derived samples to query autoimmune disease pathogenesis. Responsibilities The fellow will be responsible for working in conjunction with Dr. Niewold to develop and carry out a project related to autoimmunity research that should produce a peer‑reviewed publication. The fellow will independently design and perform experiments that utilize molecular, cellular and genetic techniques to answer questions about the role of genetic factors in the immunology of autoimmune disease. The postdoc fellow will also have responsibilities for training new or current lab members and colleagues, maintaining lab function, presenting at lab meetings, representing the lab at local, national, and international forums, drafting manuscripts for publications, and contributing to grant applications. The fellow will be supervised by the laboratory PI Dr. Niewold. The PI will hold a weekly formal meeting with the fellow to discuss experiments, data, and plans, and will provide supervision and mentoring during informal lab meetings. Minimum Job Requirements Ph.D. or M.D. degree with a background in genetic and genomic methods, cellular and molecular immunology. Strong work ethic and ability to work independently. High level of motivation and critical thinking ability. PhD candidates expected to graduate soon are also encouraged to apply. Skills Proficient use of computers and software. Knowledge of statistics and rheumatologic terminology is a plus. Good written and oral communication skills in English. Years of Experience Required Completion of PhD or MD training Physical Working Conditions Continuously stand/walk or lift/handle/carry material or equipment of light to moderate weight. Environmental Working Conditions Indoor area with laboratory benches and equipment, chairs, and computers. Hazards OSHA Category 1 Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues, and other potentially infectious materials.
