Business Domain Architect – Banking

Senior domain architect with 13+ years experience combining deep business domain expertise with cloud, data, AI and agentic AI architecture. Strong knowhow in Azure & AWS architecture with working knowledge of GCP

Locations: Bangalore/Chennai/Delhi NCR/Pune/Hyderabad    Mode: Hybrid / client-facing    Primary cloud: Azure + AWS; GCP working knowledge    Domain focus: Core banking, payments, lending, risk

ROLE PURPOSE: Act as a trusted Banking Domain SME and Enterprise Architect, partnering with business and technology stakeholders to modernize banking platforms and operations across Retail, Corporate and Transaction Banking. Own business, domain and technical architecture, translating business strategy, regulatory requirements and customer outcomes into secure, resilient and scalable Azure/AWS cloud, data, AI and Agentic AI solutions. Serve as a strategic advisor to clients, driving banking transformation from business vision through implementation..
The ideal candidate combines deep Banking Domain expertise with Enterprise Architecture, Cloud Architecture and AI leadership. They are equally comfortable engaging CXOs on business transformation strategy, advising clients on banking domain challenges, and leading engineering teams in delivering secure, scalable cloud and AI solutions. They act as a trusted advisor capable of bridging banking business priorities with modern enterprise technology to accelerate digital transformation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES    MUST-HAVE EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Banking Domain & Business Architecture
•    Act as the primary Banking Domain SME for client engagements, advising business and technology stakeholders on banking transformation, modernization strategies and industry best practices.
•    Create business capability maps, value streams, customer journeys and target architectures across Retail Banking, Corporate Banking, Payments, Cards, Deposits, Lending, Trade Finance, Treasury, Risk, Compliance, Customer Channels and Customer 360.
•    Translate business objectives, regulatory requirements and operational challenges into scalable business, application, data and technology architectures.
•    Define target operating models, transition architectures and multi-year modernization roadmaps aligned with business priorities and measurable outcomes.
•    Advise clients on banking platform selection, modernization strategies, build-versus-buy decisions and implementation approaches.
Cloud & Enterprise Architecture
•    Architect enterprise-scale Azure and AWS solutions including landing zones, hybrid cloud, networking, identity, security, governance and cloud operating models.
•    Design cloud-native architectures using APIs, event-driven architecture, microservices, containers, Kubernetes, serverless computing and integration platforms.
•    Architect enterprise data platforms including Lakehouse, Data Warehouse, Streaming, Master Data Management and Customer 360 solutions.
•    Define architecture for observability, resiliency, disaster recovery, business continuity, encryption, secrets management, FinOps and cloud governance.
•    Establish reference architectures, architecture standards, reusable patterns and Architecture Decision Records (ADRs).
Banking Modernization
•    Lead modernization initiatives involving Core Banking transformation, Open Banking, API Banking, ISO 20022 adoption, event-driven banking and digital banking platforms.
•    Design architectures for customer experience transformation, omnichannel banking, fraud prevention, payments modernization, lending platforms and intelligent banking operations.
•    Develop transformation roadmaps for application modernization, cloud migration and legacy core decoupling.
AI & Agentic AI Architecture
•    Design enterprise AI and Agentic AI solutions addressing banking use cases
•    Architect secure enterprise GenAI platforms using embeddings, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), vector databases, semantic search, tool orchestration, multi-agent systems and enterprise knowledge retrieval.
•    Design architectures supporting explainability, human approval workflows, guardrails, responsible AI, model evaluation, GenAIOps/LLMOps, prompt management and model risk management.
•    Ensure AI architectures comply with enterprise security, privacy, governance, auditability and regulatory requirements.
Security, Governance & Compliance
•    Ensure architectures satisfy security, privacy, resiliency, auditability, data sovereignty, model governance and regulatory requirements across India, Portugal and EU markets.
•    Incorporate Zero Trust principles, IAM, encryption, key management, secrets management, network security, observability and enterprise governance into solution architectures.
•    Conduct architecture reviews, solution assurance, risk assessments and non-functional requirement (NFR) validation.
Stakeholder Leadership
•    Lead architecture workshops with business executives, product owners, enterprise architects, engineering teams, security, compliance, risk, operations and external vendors.
•    Present solution options, architecture roadmaps and transformation strategies to executive leadership and client stakeholders.
•    Provide technical leadership throughout solution lifecycle including proposal support, architecture governance, implementation guidance and solution reviews.
•    Mentor solution architects and engineering teams while promoting architecture best practices and reusable enterprise patterns.
•    13+ years of experience in Banking, Financial Services or Technology Consulting.
•    Minimum 5+ years as an Enterprise, Solution or Business Architect.
•    Minimum 5+ years delivering Banking Transformation or Digital Banking programs.
•    Strong Banking Domain expertise across Retail Banking, Corporate Banking, Payments, Cards, Deposits, Lending, Trade Finance, Treasury, Risk, Compliance, Customer Channels and Customer 360
•    Demonstrated experience architecting and implementing banking solutions on Azure and/or AWS cloud platforms.
•    Strong expertise in cloud-native architecture including APIs, event-driven architecture, streaming, Lakehouse, microservices, containers, Kubernetes, serverless computing and enterprise integration.
•    Practical experience designing secure AI and Agentic AI solutions using LLMs, RAG, vector databases, AI orchestration frameworks, GenAIOps/LLMOps and enterprise AI governance.
•    Strong understanding of cloud security, enterprise integration, identity management, observability, resiliency and cloud governance.
•    Ability to translate banking strategy into target architecture, transition states, investment roadmap, delivery backlog and measurable business outcomes.
•    Excellent communication, consulting and stakeholder management skills with experience working across India and Europe (CET/IST); 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
•    Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
•    AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional
•    Google Professional Cloud Architect
•    TOGAF®, Business Architecture or equivalent enterprise architecture certification
•    CCSP, CISSP or equivalent cloud/security certification
•    Experience with leading banking platforms such as Temenos, Finacle, Oracle FLEXCUBE, FIS, Fiserv, Mambu, Thought Machine or similar.
•    Familiarity with Open Banking, PSD2, ISO 20022, RBI, EBA and EU banking regulatory frameworks.
•    Experience delivering enterprise Core Banking modernization, Digital Banking transformation or cloud-native banking platform implementations.
•    Exposure to AI governance, Responsible AI, Model Risk Management and enterprise AI adoption within regulated financial institutions
