Director of Operations

The client is seeking a Director of Operations for a direct hire position located in West Midtown Atlanta, GA, with the possibility of working one day per week from home. The Director of Operations is a senior executive responsible for overseeing the internal operations, ensuring alignment with the organization's mission. Unlike the Executive Director, who focuses on external strategy and fundraising, this role is charged with managing the internal structures that support these efforts. The Director will handle various functional areas including financial management, human resources, governance, and compliance to ensure operational success. The core responsibilities of this position involve extensive financial management and budgeting, such as overseeing business contracts, insurance policies, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and conducting annual audits. The Director must ensure fiscal prudence and seek operational efficiencies to minimize costs. In human resources, the role includes managing recruitment, onboarding, and performance reviews, as well as developing personnel policies and employee handbooks. Compliance and risk management are also crucial, requiring adherence to relevant laws, maintenance of corporate records, and development of safety protocols. Strategic leadership is key, as the role requires translating the long-term strategic plan into operational goals and evaluating program effectiveness through data-driven decisions. Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree in a related field, with a master's degree being preferred, and have 7 to 10 years of experience in operations, specifically within museum or nonprofit arts management. Essential skills include strategic planning, financial literacy, problem-solving, and computer proficiency with tools like Google Suite and QuickBooks. Strong organizational and multitasking abilities are necessary, alongside excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Experience in senior management and a data-driven approach to decision-making are also required, highlighting the need for openness and flexibility in strategic development.
