Associate Attorney

Job Overview A law firm is seeking a full-time Associate Attorney to join its immigration and criminal defense practice in Grandville, Michigan. The attorney will primarily represent clients in immigration matters, including removal defense and family-based immigration, while also supporting criminal defense matters with immigration-related implications. The position involves client counseling, legal research, courtroom advocacy, and frequent appearances before immigration courts. Duties Represent clients in immigration removal proceedings before immigration courts Prepare and file applications for immigration benefits and supporting documentation Draft motions, briefs, memoranda, and legal correspondence Conduct legal research on immigration and related legal issues Meet with clients to provide legal advice and case updates Travel to attend court hearings and other legal proceedings Assist with immigration matters arising from criminal defense cases, as appropriate Manage cases from intake through resolution while maintaining accurate case files Requirements Experience or strong interest in immigration law, particularly removal defense and family-based immigration Ability to manage a caseload and work effectively in a fast-paced environment Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills Demonstrated commitment to learning and professional development Strong interpersonal and client communication skills Moot court, mock trial, law review, journal, volunteer, or other relevant legal experience is preferred Spanish fluency is preferred but not required Familiarity with Apple products, Microsoft Word, and Adobe is preferred Education and Certifications Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school Active Michigan Bar admission Skills Immigration law Removal (deportation) defense Family-based immigration Immigration benefits applications Motion and brief drafting Legal research and writing Courtroom advocacy Client counseling and communication Case management and organization Microsoft Word and legal document preparation Spanish language proficiency (preferred) Benefits Competitive salary based on experience Health insurance Health Savings Account (HSA) 401(k) retirement plan with employer matching Paid time off and sick leave Life insurance Short-term and long-term disability insurance Bar dues paid by the firm Malpractice insurance coverage Professional membership reimbursement #J-18808-Ljbffr BCG Attorney Search
