What unites this diverse group of businesses and individuals is our commitment to create a safer, more enriching, and sustainable world by harnessing the power of family.Reporting to the Manager of Enterprise Payroll, the Payroll Specialist supports the day-to-day in a pay cycle reviewing all phases of hourly and salary payroll to include managing the data entry process, auditing, and finalizing payrolls operations across the Workday payroll team. The Payroll Specialist is the first point of contact regarding payroll forms, union payroll correspondence and payments, employee garnishment and child support payments, employee payroll tax forms and post payroll activities as well as managing the data entry/audit process for direct deposit, employee tax setup for payroll, employee tax forms, Fresh Service ticketing system and post payroll reporting and data collection for audit requests.*This role is remote, with occasional travel into the Indianapolis, IN offices. Qualified candidates must currently reside within 75 miles of the Indianapolis, IN area*Essential Functions80% Payroll and Payroll Tax SupportMaintains knowledge & understanding of applicable state and federal payroll and related tax regulations, legislation and guidelines including, but not limited to writs of garnishment, child support, levies, and subpoenas.Reviews, analyzes, and verifies payroll reports and documents for accuracy beforeReview information received through various methods for paycheck processing with Workday software to answer any questions from employeesCompletes accurate payroll entry, processes, corrections, distribution, scanning, etc.Creates lay-off checks and off-cycle checks, as needed.Processes final pay checks and recovery of overpayments based on state regulationsAdministers employee wage garnishments and child support deductionsCompletes monthly union check requests and coordinate timing of system updates to avoid payroll disruptionsAssists in researching and resolving employee pay issuesResponds to employee requests for written wage verification, etc.Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness and ensures quality of own workPrioritizes and plans personal work activities to effectively utilize timeMaintains confidentiality and the highest degree of integrityResponsible for managing the daily payroll inbox through Fresh Service ticketing systemProcesses and verifies new hire/termination payroll data and setup, including but not limited to pay cards and/or direct deposit requestsProcess Earnings and Deduction upload files (i.e bonus payments, seed money, gift cards, etc.)Reviews and verifies payroll reports and documents for accuracy before uploading 3rd party files for 401K, H S A, Taxes, Union reports, Expert Pay Child Support files, garnishments, banking, positive pay, GL Reports, etc.Gathers data for any audit requests related to unions, etc.Constantly maintain payroll data integrity for accuracy as well as work cross-functionally across other HRSS teams20% Process ImprovementStrives to identify continued efficiencies and processes to limit manual transactionsAssist Payroll Department in any projects and special assignments, as required.Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned, including but not limited to continuously growing in alignment with the Company’s core values, competencies, and skills.Education QualificationsRequired High School or equivalent experienceExperience QualificationsRequired 3+ years direct payroll processing experienceRequired experience in union work environmentRequired working experience in Workday HCMRequired experience utilizing Microsoft ExcelPreferred professional experience utilizing AI toolsSkills and AbilitiesAbility to maintain confidentiality and the highest degree of integrityMust be able to work in a team environmentWorking Conditions/Physical DemandsWork is primarily performed in an office or professional setting using standard business equipment; hybrid or remote work may be available based on role and business needs.Work is generally performed during standard business hours; occasional extended hours may be required to meet business or project demands.Minimal travel expected; occasional travel for meetings, training, or company events may be required.All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran.#TheHeritageGroupSummaryLocation: Indianapolis, INType: Full time
