Recreation Specialist (Various)

The City of Chino Hills Community Services Department is seeking energetic, safety-conscious, and customer-service-oriented individuals to fill four part-time Recreation Specialist positions. As a Recreation Specialist, you’ll work under the guidance of a Community Services Coordinator. This part-time position is year-round, at-will, and non-benefited, allowing for a maximum of 29 hours of work per week. The schedule may vary and can include weekends, evenings, and holidays, depending on programming needs. Available Assignments Community Park In this role, you’ll help implement and support programming and operational needs. This includes assisting with sports field allocations, coordinating field use and sports rentals, and helping with the city’s annual Adult Easter Egg Scramble. Teens In this assignment, you'll plan and coordinate programs, events, and activities for middle and high school students, including Teen Activity Center programs, special events, and the Teen Advisory Board meetings and programs. Job Duties Plan, coordinate, and implement a variety of recreation activities and programs; develop participant interests, enthusiasm, and participation. Provide customer service to the public; assist in planning activities and events; prepare facilities for group and recreation activities; assist in facility maintenance and room set up; prepare and maintain facility activity records. Research and prepare the order for necessary equipment and supplies; recommend budgetary expenditures; organize and monitor equipment and supply inventory. Supervise and monitor facility rentals to ensure applicants comply with City policies and procedures. Plan, organize, lead, and supervise group activities and programs such as indoor/outdoor games, sports, arts and crafts, special events, and other related activities. Deal firmly and tactfully with participants; exercise tact and judgment when resolving problems. Prepare accident and incident reports and other records and reports. Maintain a safe program environment for participants. Assist in the opening and closing of City facilities; ensure facilities are secure upon closing. Act as a liaison to parents, patrons, and participants; answer inquiries and give information pertaining to programs that are offered. Train and provide leadership to assigned lower-level staff. Interact with co-workers at all levels of the City and the public in a collaborative and customer service-oriented manner. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience Requirement This position requires a minimum of two (2) years of experience working in a recreation setting or a closely related field. Education Equivalent to completion of High School or GED. License Possession of a California Class C Driver’s License. Required Certification Possession of current First Aid, CPR, and AED Certification for Infants/Adults issued or recognized by the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
