Who We Are Looking For The Business Development Intern will be part of Clearway’s West Business Development Team. The team is responsible for growing Clearway’s utility‑scale renewable energy portfolios through acquisitions and greenfield development strategies. The intern will assist the team in the valuation, due diligence, and execution of investment opportunities for renewable energy projects. The role collaborates with seasoned industry experts and cross‑functional teams across the company, contributing to the ongoing commercialization of utility‑scale solar, storage, and wind assets in the development pipeline. Additionally, the intern will be assigned a special project to conduct in‑depth market analysis and broader growth strategies, to be presented at the end of the internship. This is a 10‑week Summer Internship Program at Clearway Energy Group beginning on June 1, 2026. The position is open to undergraduate students (juniors or rising seniors) in Business, Engineering, Economics, Finance, Computer Science, or a related field. The internship is a hybrid role based in the San Francisco office; employees are in‑office on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Program Timeline Applications Close: January 30 Interviews: February – March Final Decision: March 31 Program Dates: June 1 – August 7 What You’ll Be Doing Become familiar with and conduct analyses in Clearway’s renewable energy financial modeling environment. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams on due diligence and refining project financial model inputs. Perform ad‑hoc quantitative analyses to support ongoing origination, development, and financing activities for projects. Assist in the preparation of detailed memos and presentations for senior management and investment committees. Support cross‑functional teams in preparation of RFP submittals and ongoing PPA negotiations. Create and manage tools to monitor market activity and track internal origination strategy to identify new growth areas and M&A targets. Support initiatives to improve the dataset, tools, and business activities at Clearway. Complete a special project and present that project to the team and leadership at the end of the internship. What You’ll Bring Interest and fundamental knowledge in renewable energy, cleantech, power markets, or infrastructure finance. Knowledge of the energy industry including regulated and deregulated electricity markets and project financing structures and key value drivers. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Ability to work well in a collaborative environment that emphasizes attention to detail, meeting deadlines, and achieving company‑wide objectives. Intellectual curiosity and an interest in renewable energy: belief in a clean energy future. Strong interpersonal skills: willingness to ask questions, listen to colleagues, and contribute ideas. Self‑motivated, dependable, and accountable; eager to dive into work and ready to take ownership of projects and assignments. Ability to work independently, multitask, and take initiative. What Would Be Nice Exposure to renewable energy, including the project development cycle. Experience with Project Finance Models. Some knowledge of governmental mandates, environmental regulations, or customer/market signals that impact facilitation of new renewable projects in major markets (CAISO, WECC, ERCOT, MISO, SPP, PJM, NYISO, ISO‑NE).
