The Vice President of Ambulatory Planning is a senior leadership role responsible for developing and executing strategic initiatives to enhance the performance, growth, and integration of outpatient services within Dana Farber Cancer Institute's Longwood, Chestnut Hill and regional campuses. By taking a holistic view of the services necessary to provide world class cancer care, the VP ensures strategic operational alignment across the multi-disciplines that provide cancer care including, but not limited to, clinic, infusion, pharmacy, radiology, lab and pathology and patient care services. Reporting to the SVP, Hospital Transformation and a dotted line to the SVP, Clinical Operations, this position requires a visionary leader with a deep understanding of ambulatory oncology care operations, planning, analysis and problem solving, market trends, and patient-centered care models.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Planning: Analysis, Solutions and Recommendations:
Collects information to understand stakeholder needs, issues, problems, and opportunities; conducts rigorous and productive information gathering interviews utilizing open, layered questions; asks internal and external stakeholders for input and insight
Understands and interprets quantitative/qualitative data related to project/business success measures to develop findings/recommendations; identifies opportunities to perform quantitative/qualitative analysis for the purpose of supporting analysis or decision making
Develops pro forma that provides the financial implications of planned and recommended solutions; utilizes scenario analysis to frame alternative solutions/strategic directions and guide decision making
Distills complex, multi-faceted information into understandable models and frameworks, emphasizing most important aspects; integrates information from a variety of sources and knowledge of broader Institute; uses critical thinking to draw inferences based on available information
Conducts market research to identify emerging trends, competitive landscape, and patient needs.
Generates relevant options for addressing problems/opportunities and achieving desired outcomes; challenges assumptions and looks for innovative solutions; draws upon diverse sources for ideas and inspiration in creative problem-solving activities; evaluates options by considering implications, risks, feasibility, and consequences; plans for various scenarios and generates alternative options in the absence of perfect information
Considers the implications of recommended solutions in light of the culture and context of DFCI; recommends plans and processes for implementing solutions; follows up to ensure that problems remain solved
Develops facilitation plans and uses a structured approach to facilitate significant decision making; makes specific decisions when needed based on best available information; documents, important decisions, delegates or escalates decisions when appropriate, follows up to ensure decisions were implemented
Strategic Operations Planning and Execution:
Leads the development and implementation of a comprehensive ambulatory oncology strategy aligned with the organization's overall mission and goals.
Working with the business strategy office, executive leadership and functional leadership, identifies growth opportunities and innovative solutions to expand ambulatory services that meets the organization's goals of patient access and experience. Plans reflect the multi-discipline approach to cancer care ensuring alignment across the various functions.
Collaborates with executive leadership to integrate ambulatory care strategies across the organization.
Operational Planning:
Monitors key performance indicators (e.g. access, patient experience, quality and safety indicators) to identify trends, identify gaps and initiates initiatives to course correct and achieve operational excellence.
Identifies opportunities for process improvements to optimize service delivery and resource utilization ensuring alignment with best practices; uses structured qualitative and quantitative approaches to analyze problems differentiating problem symptoms and root causes
Works with operational leaders to identify opportunities to improve patient acquisition, retention, and experience.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Establishes and maintains strong relationships with key stakeholders, including faculty, staff, ambulatory and functional (e.g. pharmacy, radiation oncology, radiology, lab) leadership, executives and clinical collaboration partners.
Communicates effectively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and support for strategic operational goals.
Identifies the needs of others and demonstrates how Ambulatory Planning activities and outcomes address those needs; focuses on shared goals; gains agreement to address a problem or take partnership-oriented action.
Leadership and Team Development:
Builds and leads a high-performing team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
Provides mentorship and professional development opportunities for staff.
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in business or healthcare administration; master's degree preferred
10+ years of hospital administration experience, preferably in an academic setting, along with experience in clinical operations
