DIRECTOR, COMMERICIAL DISTRIBUTION OPERATIONS

SUMMARY:

The Director, Commercial Distribution Operations will play a critical role in the growth of Ionis and its transformation into a fully integrated biotechnology organization, by leading distribution operations for Ionis’ innovative products. This individual will be responsible for the oversight of the commercial distribution operations and impacted channel partners that are necessary to support Ionis’ commercial products. In addition, this role will play a critical role in the Order to Cash process supporting the Ionis ERP platforms. This position will report to the Executive Director, Global Supply Chain and be located at our corporate headquarters in Carlsbad California, our Boston office location or remote with travel to corporate locations and customers as needed to ensure business continuity.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The ideal candidate will:

• Lead long term, sustainable strategy design, vendor management, and implementation for domestic end-to-end channel partnership, including 3PL and other required channel partners.
• Oversee and be accountable for the day-to-day operations of contracted domestic 3PL partner(s) and ensure adherence to all required GxP Quality and Distribution activities.
• As required, serve as a key member of the Ionis Order to Cash activities necessary to support the ERP platform, such as:
  • Design, testing and roll out of all required platforms necessary to enable the full ERP system
  • Design, Integration and oversight of all connectivity sites with 3PL(s) and other channel/technology partners, such as integrations, process improvements, or other activities required to maximize the ERP systems
  • Leadership and support of all releases, upgrades, or improvements supporting the OTC capabilities with SAP S4 Hana.
  • Planning for and strategy to support the long-term Ionis vision for the future capabilities of Manufacturing, Supply, and Distribution of Ionis wholly owned and partnered assets.
• Support all Global Distribution partners, initiatives, and enhancements required to compliantly and efficiently distribute and/or warehouse Ionis finished goods globally
• Ensure necessary data connections are established and monitored to evaluate the Ionis commercial performance, KPIs, inventory levels, and stock availability.
• Clearly communicate goals, progress, risks, and mitigation plans for critical activities impacting launch, hyper care, and expansions to leadership during quarterly business
• Collaborate with other Supply chain functions, Commercial Quality, Patient Services and Commercial Distribution, and U.S Market Access, CMC, Regulatory, Legal, Marketing, Finance, Sales, Commercial Analytics, and others, as necessary to support organizational planning and performance needs.
• Lead a high functioning team that is supporting the commercial movement, sale, distribution, delivery, and full order to cash visibility of the distribution operations function for Ionis’s finished goods.
• Manage Vendors, Partners, Projects within budgeted levels.
• Oversee the required domestic State Licensing Initiatives and renewals necessary to ensure Ionis acquires and maintains the appropriate licenses to comply with all state and CMO requirements.
• Participate as required in the departmental goal and planning cycles ensuring support and coverage for team as assigned.
• Develop increased knowledge of Ionis Global Distribution strategy and needs

COMPETENCIES IDENTIFIED FOR SUCCESS

• Rare disease, orphan, or ultra-orphan product experience highly desirable
• Strong understanding of Domestic pharmaceutical supply chain and relevant experience with distribution models, medical and pharmacy benefit dollar flows, trade processes, state licensing requirements, etc.
• Current applicable knowledge and experience in managing the day-to-day activities with a partnered Third-Party Logistics partner.
• Understanding and or hands on experience with the functionality and improvements required of a corporate ERP platform. SAP s4 /Hana experience highly preferred.
• Understanding of regulatory agency requirements or policies that govern drug distribution.
• Proven people leader that has current and relevant experience leading and developing a technical team that is responsible for day-to-day activities ensuring product accessibility within the channel.
• Demonstrated skills in data analytics, business planning, negotiations, financial acumen, contract pull-through, and problem-solving
• Strong leadership skills and ability to partner / effectively collaborate across functions to gain alignment and improve business performance
• Demonstrated ability and proven history of driving execution
• Highly organized and detail oriented, with strong presentation and writing skills, proactive communications

REQUIREMENTS:

• Undergraduate bachelor’s degree required, ideally in health sciences or business/marketing; MBA or other advanced degree preferred
• Bio/pharmaceutical experience with a minimum 15+ years in domestic or global commercial market access, Supply Chain/Technical Operations, and/or other distribution related functions
• Demonstrative ability and experience leading complex teams, projects, and programs within budget and timelines.
• New product launch experience in the US and /or Global is required, preference for specialty drug launch
