Operations Supervisor

First Student is currently hiring for an Operations Supervisor for our location supporting Cincinnati Public Schools. In this role you will focus on supervising day to day operations of our buses, as well as scheduling the maintenance and fueling of the buses. The Operations Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and on‑time transportation of students while managing the daily operations of drivers and routes. A typical day begins by verifying driver attendance, covering open routes, and addressing last‑minute staffing or vehicle issues before buses leave the yard. Throughout the day, the dispatcher monitors route performance, communicates with drivers via radio and phone, responds to breakdowns, accidents, weather conditions, and student management concerns, and coordinates with schools, parents, mechanics, and management to resolve operational challenges. They maintain compliance with company policies and transportation regulations, document incidents, track attendance and performance, assist with driver support and coaching, and ensure all routes are completed safely and effectively. The role requires strong communication, problem‑solving, multitasking, and leadership skills to keep transportation operations running smoothly while providing excellent service to students, families, and school district partners. Schedule Monday through Friday, AM or PM routes (8 hours between 4:30am‑7:00pm). Salary $50,000‑53,000 per year, depending upon experience. Job Responsibilities Demonstrates and promotes a safe work environment at all times. Ensures drivers have the daily paperwork necessary to complete their routes. Ensures completed charter paperwork is received by the Location Manager for processing. Coordinates field trips by assigning personnel and vehicles. Under location manager's direction, assists drivers with establishing route descriptions. Ensures that drivers follow through with scheduled fueling and mechanical work. Observes safety practices of personnel and takes corrective action when necessary. Assists Location Manager during training session and kick‑off meetings. Attends disciplinary meetings with location manager. May interact with school officials on routine matters at smaller bus locations. May drive bus on occasion if necessary. Assists dispatcher when necessary. May manage small locations under the overall direction of the Location Manager. Ensures that routes meet state, local, and vendor requirements. Reviews timesheets prior to submission to payroll. Minimum Requirements 3–5 years experience in the transportation industry. Good supervisory skills. Excellent communication and organization skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Computer skills. Subject to DOT drug testing and physical.
