Perfusionist

Job Summary:


The Perfusionist is responsible for operating heart-lung machines and other equipment during cardiac surgeries and related procedures in an acute care hospital setting. This role requires a minimum of four years of experience, with first-time practitioners considered. The Perfusionist must ensure patient safety and effective perfusion support while collaborating closely with the surgical team. Strong technical skills, state licensure, and BLS certification are required. The position includes on-call duties and weekend rotations in a Level I trauma center and Magnet hospital environment.

Responsibilities:

• Operate and monitor heart-lung machines and other perfusion equipment during cardiac surgeries and procedures.
• Prepare and maintain perfusion equipment and supplies before, during, and after procedures.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Monitor patient vital signs and adjust perfusion parameters accordingly.
• Maintain accurate documentation and charting of perfusion activities using Cerner.
• Participate in weekend call rotation and holiday coverage as required.
• Adhere to hospital policies, safety protocols, and quality standards in a Level I trauma and Magnet facility.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Minimum of 4 years of perfusionist experience preferred; first-time candidates accepted.
• State licensure as a Perfusionist.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Proficiency with perfusion equipment and cardiac surgery protocols.
• Ability to work effectively in a high-acuity, fast-paced acute care hospital environment.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience working in a Magnet hospital or Level I trauma center.
• Familiarity with Cerner electronic medical record system.
• Experience with weekend and holiday coverage in a hospital setting.

Special Considerations:

• Weekend call rotation approximately every 5th weekend with possible holiday coverage.
• On-call required as needed.
• Open to discussing block schedule requests with management.
• Return to office (RTO) restrictions ideally no more than 5 days.
• Guaranteed hours policy includes allowance for client call-offs up to 36 hours per thirteen-week assignment without pay; excess cancellations will be billed.
• Scrub color provided by hospital.
• Parking permit required but no cost to employee.

Scheduling:

• Standard shift: 5 days per week, 8 hours per day (5x8 days).
• Weekend call rotation approximately every fifth weekend.
• Possible holiday coverage as part of on-call duties.
• Schedule accommodations available upon discussion with manager.
