Job Description Title: Principal – Crofton Meadows Elementary School, Crofton, Maryland. Job Summary Administers, evaluates and modifies instructional programs. Manages school, human and financial resources, buildings, grounds and equipment. Establishes effective relationships with students, parents, staff, community groups and Central Office support staff. Provides a safe and secure learning environment for students and staff. Additional Work Days / Hours Evenings/Nights Weekends Essential Duties / Responsibilities Supervise and evaluate the effectiveness of all school personnel; report and monitor employees not meeting contractual requirements. Define the school’s mission and communicate the goals of the total school program. Provide instructional leadership for the alignment of curriculum, instruction and assessment through observation and evaluation of teachers. Create, maintain and monitor a monthly meeting calendar that allows for faculty and staff collaboration and a school culture focused on rigor and learning for all students. Coordinate the instructional program of the school in conjunction with the appropriate central office staff and the staff development office; supervise the instructional program of the school. Improve instructional practices through observation and evaluation of teachers. Lead and direct the process of continuous school improvement. Develop a school improvement plan (SIP) that supports the district’s strategic plan and current required state growth measures. Monitor and assess student achievement using technology and multiple sources of data. Engage all community stakeholders in shared responsibility for student learning and school success. Develop an approach to improve and maintain a positive culture for learning that capitalizes on cultural diversity to meet the needs of all students. Create and implement school‑wide supervision plans that establish and maintain a safe and orderly environment. Develop clearly understood procedures and provide regular drills for emergencies and disasters. Seek and engage in professional activities that foster leadership development. Administer and coordinate school discipline in a fair and consistent manner. Perform other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower. Minimum Qualifications Education: Master’s Degree in a related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required; Doctoral Degree preferred. Experience: Three (3) years experience as a school‑based administrator. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics Knowledge of the curriculum of the schools of Anne Arundel County. Adherence to Board of Education Policies, Administrative Regulations and operating procedures. Effective communication with students, staff, administrators, parents and the community. Initiative, tact and good judgment in dealing with others. Ability to build a school culture that values diversity. Recruit and maintain a teaching and support staff reflecting the diversity of the student population and community. Ability to create a collaborative team that promotes high expectations for all students. Demonstrated ability to garner support and resources, engage community organizations and businesses to support student achievement. Positive interpersonal skills inside and outside of school. Supervise school activities both inside and outside the classroom and before and after school. Effective work and communication with diverse populations. Proficiency with business technology applications (video/web conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite). Licenses and Certifications Hold or be eligible for Supervisor of Instruction, Assistant Principal and Principal licensure issued by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). Driving Requirements Driving is required to conduct bona fide Board business within the scope of employment. Personal vehicle. Leadership Role Manages direct and indirect staff; oversees departments. Interview, select and train employees. Set/adjust pay, work hours and direct work of employees. Maintain records for supervision and assess performance for promotions. Handle employee complaints and grievance procedures. Discipline employees. Plan work and determine techniques to use. Allocate work among employees and control material and equipment flow. Ensure safety and security of employees and property. Plan and control budget and monitor legal compliance. Physical Demands / Working Conditions Standing Walking Sitting 1/3 to 2/3 of time. Keyboarding 1/3 to 2/3 of time. Talking 1/3 to 2/3 of time. Hearing 1/3 to 2/3 of time. Driving Additional demands as required by duties. Travel Requirements 10% day travel within the county.
