Residential Support and Outreach Coordinator Job Description The RSOC plays an integral role in creating a safe and supportive residential community. Under the supervision of the Assistant Director (AD) for Care & Well-being, this position is expected to incorporate the mission, vision, and values of Residential Education into their work. The RSOC is responsible for facilitating, enhancing, and supporting the well-being of USC Housing residents. This position serves as an initial contact for individuals seeking various well-being services and provides non-clinical case management support. The RSOC works in collaboration with campus and community partners to connect residents with the appropriate resources to meet their academic, professional, personal, and residential needs. This role collaborates with the entire Residential Education department to foster a culture in which all USC Housing residents can thrive. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Provide case management and related supportive services to USC Housing residents on a wide variety of health, personal, roommate, and/or family emergencies, concerns, and challenges Maintain case management database reports, notes, and documents in collaboration with campus partners Track, monitor, and maintain case records in a timely manner for residents in need of support Respond to concerns in a timely manner to provide consultation, intervention, recommendations, direct communication, and follow‑up Train and provide on‑going consultation and resources to student leaders and other professional staff in relation to crisis management & well‑being support Establish and maintain positive working relationships with a variety of campus partners and stakeholders Assist with outreach and response to large‑scale incidents that may impact the residential community Review all relevant University reports such as Department of Public Safety (DPS) reports, Trojans Care for Trojans (TC4T), and Housing logs as they are received Assist in the compilation of data and assessment efforts that are used for monthly and annual care statistical reports Maintain confidential student records in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) Other duties as assigned by the departmental leadership Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. Degree in Social Work, Higher Education/Student Affairs or Human Services field is preferred Work Experience: Prior work experience in residence life or student affairs/life is desirable Leadership Experience: Demonstrate leadership and ability to work effectively with staff and students Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, faculty, staff, and the public. Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form Residential Education. Computer Skills: Advanced MS Word processing, MS Excel or Spreadsheets, MS PowerPoint and MS Access or Database Software. Adept user of Internet, e‑mail, and other office automation systems. Specific Duties and Responsibilities Residential Crisis and Care Process Coordination Support the AD for Care and Well‑being and serve as the point person on assigned residential crisis and care situations in the absence of the AD for Care & Well‑being Follow crisis protocols to meet the needs of residential students and staff Train and provide on‑going consultation and resources to student leaders and other professional staff in relation to crisis management & well‑being support Review all residential student concern records ensuring that staff adheres to established guidelines and provides feedback Maintain case management database and develop additional resources Help coordinate crisis and care‑related reassignments through USC Housing and Residential Education staff Develop collaborative and working relationships with key campus partners, including but not limited to: Counseling and Mental Health Services, Campus Support and Intervention, Department of Public Safety, Office of Civil Rights Compliance, Office of Community Expectations, Office of Threat Assessment and Management, Office of the Vice President for Student Life, and the Student Life resource centers Maintain confidential student records in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) Submit reports as mandated for compliance with policy and directives as outlined by OCRC and the Office of Youth Protection and Programming In addition, the successful candidate must demonstrate, through ideas, words and actions, a strong commitment to USC’s Unifying Values. Administrative & Management Responsibilities Create and update detailed care reports as appropriate in the case management system Log updates in case management database with detailed and timely information Participate in a rotating triage shift to provide timely review and response to incoming care reports Conduct residential care checks in consultation with AD for Care & Well‑being and campus partners Participate in short‑and long‑term planning and development of department goals and objectives Participate in updating resource documents and departmental manuals Initiate, lead, and implement student‑centered well‑being initiatives Student Development Functions Incorporate student development theory and knowledge into daily practices and decision‑making Provide support, assistance, and referrals to all Residential Education staff as well as residents Be available for referral and consultation needs, conflict mediation, crisis intervention, and appropriate follow‑up Mission‑Related Responsibilities Foster an environment that supports the departmental, division, and University missions Promote belonging through daily practices and policies as well as through outreach and support, programming initiatives, and community building Empower residents to participate in and create communities that are inclusive while actively practicing capacity building and resiliency Professional Development Participate in professional development opportunities sponsored by the Office for Residential Education and/or Student Life A limited amount of professional development funds may be available annually to attend opportunities supported by individual professional development plans Departmental Duties Attend and participate in Residential Education staff meetings Attend regularly scheduled one‑on‑one meetings with the AD for Care & Well‑being Participate in ongoing meetings with internal stakeholders Represent Residential Education in weekly meetings with campus partnersServe on departmental committees Participate in recruitment and selection of Residential Education staff Attend events and programs sponsored by the department and/or Student Life, including those that periodically occur on weekends and evenings Other duties as assigned by the department The hourly rate range for this position is $33.85 - 38.01.
