As a journey-level member of the Southwest Region, you'll play an important role in keeping WSDOT facilities, buildings, and equipment operating safely and efficiently across the region. You'll perform a variety of repair and preventive maintenance activities, using your mechanical expertise to help ensure our transportation facilities are reliable, functional, and ready to support the communities we serve.This is a great opportunity to put your skills to work across a diverse range of facilities and systems, including rest areas and radio sites. In addition to your primary mechanical responsibilities, you'll have the opportunity to perform work across multiple trades and tackle a variety of maintenance challenges throughout the Southwest Region. Your work will directly support WSDOT's mission and commitment to a strong Culture of Safety while helping keep our facilities and transportation system running smoothly.Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Maintenance Mechanic will:Independently make repairs and perform preventive maintenance to building structures to include roofing repairs, plumbing repairs, carpentry, window replacement, overhead doors, etc.Make repairs and modifications to potable and non-potable water systems, water/sewage systems and hot water systems.Repair and replace plumbing, piping, fixtures and related mechanical devices.Perform drainage system maintenance, oil/water separator, drainage swales and ponds.Maintenance of fire alarm systems, security systems, and power gate systems region wide.To be considered for this opportunity, the following competencies are required :Journey-Level Trade Knowledge and Application: Demonstrated journey-level knowledge and application of a recognized construction or mechanical trade, such as plumbing, carpentry, building maintenance, or a closely related trade, gained through a recognized apprenticeship program, journey-level trade status, or progressively responsible experience as a supervised helper or trainee.Building and Facility Maintenance: Demonstrated ability to perform skilled maintenance, repair, and modification of building facilities, mechanical equipment, plumbing systems, structures, and related components using appropriate tools, equipment, materials, and work practices.Independent Repair and Problem Solving: Ability to independently assess building and utility system issues, determine appropriate repair or modification needs, develop an approach, and safely complete or coordinate the work.Preventive Maintenance and Reliability: Demonstrated ability to establish, perform, and document preventive maintenance activities across multiple facility systems to maintain reliable operations, identify potential issues, and reduce unplanned equipment failures or service interruptions.Integrated Facility Systems Knowledge: Demonstrated understanding of how structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and drainage systems interact within building and facility operations and how work performed on one system may affect other components.Safety and Work Practices: Ability to safely perform skilled maintenance and repair activities while following applicable safety requirements, procedures, and industry practices.Respectful and Inclusive Workplace: Demonstrated ability to contribute to a work environment that promotes respect, professionalism, and equal opportunity for employees and the public.Growth Mindset: Actively demonstrates a commitment to learning and growth.Service-Oriented: Takes action to meet the needs of others.The following qualifications are also required :A valid driver's license and the ability to operate state-owned vehicles.Class A CDL without air brakes restriction (Must be obtained within 12 months)Ability to maneuver and transport various materials and/or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.It is preferred that qualified candidates also demonstrate:Building Operations and Facility Systems: Demonstrated knowledge of building operations, facility systems, and maintenance practices, as demonstrated through Building Operators Certification (BOC) Level 1 or 2 , or equivalent education, training, or experience.Skilled Trades Training: Demonstrated foundational knowledge and application of a recognized construction or mechanical trade through successful completion of a recognized trades apprenticeship program or equivalent training and experience.Computer and Technology Skills: Demonstrated ability to use basic computer applications and electronic systems to complete routine work activities, including email, internet research, data entry, electronic records, and other computer-based tasks.Work-Life Balance – We offer flexible work schedules that allow you time for your life outside of this excellent opportunity.Paid Leave – In addition to 12 paid holidays, full-time employees may earn up to 25 paid vacation days per year!Tuition Assistance – Permanent employees have several options for assistance with education expenses, including tuition reimbursement programs, government discounts at participating colleges throughout the state, and eligibility for federal student loan forgiveness.Plan For Your Future – WSDOT offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes a variety of healthcare options.
