RN Perioperative Nurse

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse (RN) will provide direct patient care across three critical perioperative areas: Pre-op, Operating Room (OR) Circulator, and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). The RN will function as a primary caregiver, responsible for patient assessments, care documentation, emotional support, surgical case circulation, instrument processing assistance, and patient education. This role requires comprehensive experience in all three areas with adherence to infection control and national perioperative standards. Responsibilities:

• Conduct patient assessments and document care throughout Pre-op, OR, and PACU.
• Provide emotional support and patient education to surgical patients and their families.
• Coordinate patient transfers and recover patients post-surgery.
• Circulate surgical cases and assist with instrument and equipment processing in central sterilizing.
• Assist other staff members as needed within surgical services.
• Adhere to infection control principles and departmental policies.
• Follow national standards and guidelines including IAHCSMM, AORN, ASGE, and ASPAN.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in Colorado.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in Pre-op, OR, and PACU nursing.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to perform effectively in high-stress situations.
• Physical ability to stand for long periods, walk extensively, and perform heavy lifting.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification.
• Scrub experience in the OR setting.

Special Considerations:

• Rotational call schedule including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
• Exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious diseases, and unpleasant sights and smells.
• Mental resilience required for stressful and fast-paced surgical environments.

Scheduling:

• 40-hour work week with general hours from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
• Occasional late shifts to complete surgical case loads.
• Rotational surgical call averaging 1 to 2 days per week and every other or every third weekend depending on staff coverage.
