About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical/Solid Organ Transplant Duration: 13 or 26 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a large, urban hospital setting License: Current nursing license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS required; NIH, CPI preferred Must-Have: - EPIC charting experience - Experience in drip management - Ability to float within the facility as needed Description: This is a 36-bed unit providing medical surgical and telemetry care. The unit specializes in the care of adult pre and post liver, kidney, pancreas, and intestinal transplant patients. Adolescent patients starting at the age of 15 are on the unit but are cared for by core staff only. Ratios are 1:5 during the day and 1:6 at night, with a potential ratio of 1:7 at night in rare situations. RNs must be prepared to float frequently to meet staffing needs. Travelers will arrive with the capacity to manage various drips. Additional nursing support includes care techs and transport staff. Weekend shifts require working 4 shifts out of 8 possible in a 4-week period. Travelers must be willing to work 2 out of 3 major holidays. This facility is a nicotine-free environment. Various interdisciplinary support services are available, including physical therapy and respiratory services. Special procedures performed include extensive wound care and management of surgical drains. Required skills include managing cardiac and vasoactive drips, interpreting dysrhythmias, and performing phlebotomy. Overhead lift equipment is available in every patient room. This unit often encounters patients who have undergone various complex surgical procedures. Team collaboration is emphasized for optimal patient care. Nursing staff must maintain professionalism and adhere to all facility policies and procedures. Travelers must arrive prepared to comply with all orientation requirements as necessary. All employment is subject to the completion of necessary hiring and compliance documentation.
