The Manager of Payroll is responsible for US and global payroll activities, developing policies, procedures and payroll strategy.  The incumbent is responsible for directing the activities of all payroll staff and for developing and monitoring all tasks necessary to accomplish the organization’s payroll processing objectives, including relationships with internal and external auditors and state and federal agencies. 

Essential Functions:

•Ensure adherence to payroll process standards, including system design, data collection, calculations, data input and related reporting.

•Develop, implement and monitor internal policies, procedures and controls related to payroll processes.

•Ensure compliance with all federal, state and local legal requirements.

•Lead and develop payroll team including: hiring, training and employee development; managing group workload and establishing priorities; ensuring existing policies and procedures are followed; managing/reviewing annual performance reviews and monitoring appropriate performance metrics.

•Manage payroll work activities including verification of electronic reports, salary deductions (both mandatory and voluntary), W-2 preparation, quarterly and annual federal, stateand local tax reports, and other reports and actions affecting payment of personnel and payroll history of employees.

•Serve as Payroll lead for special projects, including but not limited to assisting in the continuing development of an integrated Human Resource/Payroll information system. Provide direction to HRIS on maintenance and enhancements to the Payroll and HR suite of products.

•Protect payroll operations by maintaining confidentiality of records.

•Support global expansion by managing payroll process for Canada, UKand future world-wide operations.

•Assist internal and external auditors during audit process, providing documents, reports, and other payroll-related credentials upon request; answering questions regarding information and/or procedures as required; and implementing procedural changes recommended by auditors.

•Other duties as assigned.

Education:

•Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration with course study in accounting or a related field required.

•CPP designation preferred.

Work Experience:

•5 plus years of payroll experience in a global environment. Retail or multi-location experience, preferred.

•2 - 4 years of supervisory experience.

Skills and Abilities:

•Demonstrated coaching/mentoring skills and problem-solving skills.

•Strong customer service and time management skills.

•Ability to analyze administrative problems and adopt an effective resolution.

•Ability to select information from sources such as financial and operating records and to organize information for reports.

•Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or government regulations.

•Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.

•Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.

•Knowledge of payroll, human resources, and accounting operations applications

•Considerable knowledge of federal, stateand local payroll functions and administration, including regulations and their underlying principles

•Knowledge of major payroll applications, such as ADP and/or Ceridian.
