Financial/Credit Examiner career opportunity to protect consumers and ensure compliance with Colorado consumer credit regulations. What You Will Do This position investigates and examines potential violations of the Colorado Uniform Consumer Credit Code, Colorado Rental Purchases Agreement Act, the Federal Truth in Lending Act, and related statutes. Duties include preparing and conducting compliance examinations of retail sales, rent‑to‑own, sales finance, and supervised lending companies, preparing examination reports, conducting licensing investigations, and reviewing documents related to consumer complaints. Financial/Credit Examiner I works under the direction and supervision of the Financial Credit Examiner IV to perform the following duties: Conduct Compliance Examinations Examine regulated creditors’ financial records, reports, and policies to ensure compliance with relevant statutes and regulations. Use complex financial calculators and software to verify calculations, disclosures, and interest rates. Collaborate with the team to prioritize examinations based on compliance history and consumer complaint data. Coordinate in‑person and mail examinations, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and consistency. Contact creditors to request consumer account data and communication records. Follow up on overdue responses and recommend action for non‑response. Assist in determining isolated or systemic violations and in drafting examination reports. Prepare memos for the Deputy Administrator and coordinate with legal enforcement staff on litigation support. Collaborate on public and stakeholder outreach when systemic issues are identified. Recommend process improvements for examinations and documentation. Investigations Assist in reviewing consumer complaint documents with the Complaint Intake Coordinator. Identify potential violations during documentation review. Determine misrepresentations or deceptive acts in coordination with CCU staff. Provide assistance during litigation and attorney‑led investigations. Licensing Support Assist in processing licensing applications and renewals. Recommend adjustments to application forms or investigation procedures. Litigation and Administrative Support Assist on complex investigations and prepare exhibits for Assistant Attorney Generals. Evaluate compliance with discovery requests. Testify in hearings and perform related administrative tasks. Minimum Qualifications Five years of professional experience in consumer finance, auditing, regulatory analysis, or closely related duties. OR Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and one year of professional experience in the same fields. OR Master’s degree in public administration, business administration, economics, or accounting/finance. Transcripts must be provided if substituting education for experience; foreign degrees require an accredited translation. Preferred Qualifications Strong analytical skills. Demonstrated strong writing, reviewing, and editing skills. Professional experience with report writing and compliance exams. Experience interpreting statutes, regulations, and proposed legislation. Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication with the public and regulated entities. Professional demeanor and commitment to public service. Relevant State of Colorado work experience. Experience applying the Truth in Lending Act (Regulation Z). Required Competencies Proficiency with MS Office Suite. Financial math ability to calculate and interpret loan and interest terms.
