(e.g. for a job / internship under OPT/CPT) * No Position Description * The Hancock County Engineer’s Office in Findlay, OH is seeking a candidate to fill a temporary Civil Engineering/Technology/GIS student project position – Fall 2026. Under supervision of the County Engineering staff, the student will apply Geographic Information System (GIS) coursework principles to project work. The student will work to complete a project updating deed maps with new boundaries using GIS-related software such as Arc Pro/Deed Reader Pro. The student will work with the County Tax Map Office and will complete administrative computer work at a desk. Electronic maps/drawings will be updated, recorded in a database, and saved. The student will work in a team-oriented environment; and may perform other related duties as assigned. Coursework toward an engineering/technology/GIS related associate or bachelor’s degree is preferred. Other majors of study will be considered. The student must possess organizational skills with strong attention to detail; be able to work independently and as part of a team; be self-motivated; and interact well with all project stakeholders. The student must be proficient with Microsoft Office suite or similar software and have experience using GIS-related software such as Arc Pro/Deed Reader Pro. Experience surveying is desired but not required. Work will be in a typical office environment using computers, will include sedentary work for long periods of time. Fall 2026, Winter/Spring 2027, or Summer 2027 are available work sessions; and hours of work may accommodate availability of the student, between 15-40 hours per week. Start date: September – for Fall session Monday – Friday: 7 am – 3:30 pm. Work hours each day may be flexible or reduced. Essential Functions Working under supervision of the County Engineering staff, the student will complete project work (i.e. electronically updating deed maps with new boundaries using GIS-related software, and index documents following an established indexing process). Learn necessary processes from County Engineering staff to correctly complete updates and indexing. Apply organizational skills and attention to detail to successfully update deed maps, save and upload indexed documents as assigned. Apply analytical and problem-solving skills to accurately complete all project work and ensure timely completion of assigned tasks. Communicate progress toward completion of tasks. Receive guidance concerning project work; interact with and handle inquiries from project stakeholders/others in a prompt and friendly manner. Effectively plan and organize work and complete tasks within prescribed timeframes. May perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications * Minimum Qualifications Currently enrolled, and in good academic standing, in an undergraduate degree program at an accredited college or university. Must have completed first year (minimum) towards an associate or bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, technology or GIS related field. Good organizational skills with strong attention to detail; able to work independently and as part of a team. Previous experience with Arc Pro, AutoCAD, or Deed Reader Pro software is preferred. Proficient with Microsoft Office suite or similar software. Previous experience surveying is preferred. Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field. Authorized to work in the US for any employer, on a full‑time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future. Able to reliably commute to Findlay, OH work location without relocation assistance. Physical Requirements Typical office environment, prolonged periods of working at a desk, and subjected to normal office noise and interruptions. Fine dexterity to operate keyboards, smart phones, and small controls. Able to use typical office equipment (including distinguishing graphics and visual patterns used in computer software). Able to drive and/or provide own transportation consistently to various work site locations within Hancock County and surrounding counties. Able to perform work in all environmental conditions (including sustained exposure to dust, inclement weather and various outside temperature changes); and access and navigate job sites, including work on roadways alongside active traffic. Frequently stand for long periods of time, walk, bend, stoop, and climb over various grades. Occasionally lift and/or move weights up to 40 pounds at a time.
