Assistant Controller (Construction)

The Assistant Controller supports the finance and accounting team by performing daily accounting operations, maintaining accurate financial records, and assisting with month end and year end close processes. This role ensures financial data integrity, supports compliance requirements, and contributes to efficient financial operations.

Minimum qualifications include a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field, 8+ years of progressive accounting experience with 4+ years of construction accounting, and proficiency with accounting software and intermediate to advanced Excel skills.

Other requirements include an in-office position, maintaining highly confidential and sensitive information, and staying abreast of Federal, State, local, and corporate reporting changes.

Preferred qualifications include spectrum experience and/or similar construction based ERP.

Key skills and competencies include understanding of internal controls and audit processes, ability to interpret financial data and identify discrepancies, team leadership and cross-functional collaboration, strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills, ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines, detail-oriented with high level of accuracy, analytical thinking, understanding of GAAP principles, clear and effective written and verbal communication, problem-solving and process improvement mindset.

Job responsibilities include assisting Controller with day-to-day operations, supporting month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, reviewing financial data, ensuring compliance with regulations, acting as a liaison with internal and external auditors, tracking fixed assets and equipment, preparing and distributing W-2s and 1099s, submitting required reports, assisting in the maintenance and implementation of accounting software and databases, preparing analysis reports and data requests, serving as a point of support for all accounting staff, and acting leadership in Controller's absence.
