Assembler – Fiber Optic Production

This role focuses on assembling fiber optic cables and related products in a clean manufacturing environment. You will work with small components, wires, and cables, following detailed instructions to build high-quality photonic assemblies. The position requires comfort with hand tools, standing for extended periods, and working a day-shift schedule with frequent overtime on Fridays and occasional work on Saturdays.

Responsibilities

• Follow established assembly instructions and procedures for fiber optic cables and related products.
• Assemble small parts, wires, and cables accurately and consistently to meet quality standards.
• Maintain at least the minimum standard quota for each job assignment, based on time and/or piece count.
• Use hand tools and measurement tools correctly and safely during assembly tasks.
• Obtain and maintain an intermediate understanding of the names and proper use of tools used in assembly.
• Develop and maintain the ability to identify components and understand product configurations.
• Achieve an intermediate level of proficiency in measuring using both standard and metric units and use available conversion tools.
• Perform all tasks with a high level of accuracy and thoroughness to ensure a quality product.
• Comply with all safety requirements, company policies, and standard operating procedures.
• Report any irregularities related to daily production goals, product quality, or delays to production supervision or management.
• Apply basic problem-solving skills to identify issues, take appropriate action to resolve them, and contribute constructive ideas for improvement.
• Communicate clearly with team members and supervisors to support smooth production flow.
• Support overall production needs by performing related duties as assigned within the assembly area.

Essential Skills

• At least 1 year of manufacturing or production experience, preferably with small part assembly.
• Experience using hand tools in a production or assembly environment.
• Comfort working with small parts, wires, and cables.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English clearly for instructions and documentation.
• Basic measurement skills using both standard and metric units.
• Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
• Ability to stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks.
• Availability to work a day shift schedule (6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday) with frequent overtime on Fridays and the ability to work Fridays and Saturdays for 5–8 hours as needed.
• Compliance with ITAR requirements.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Good manual dexterity and strong eye-hand coordination for precise small-part assembly.
• High level of attention to detail to ensure accurate and consistent work.
• Familiarity with measurement tools and basic measuring techniques in both standard and metric systems.
• Ability to read and work from basic production documentation such as simple blueprints or schematics.
• Exposure to or familiarity with wiring, panel wiring, and basic electrical assembly tasks.
• Experience using tools such as wire crimpers, wire strippers, and crimping tools.
• Ability to reason, analyze, and apply basic problem-solving in a production setting.
• Ability to sit or stand for long periods and to lift, stoop, and bend as needed for assembly tasks.
• Strong dependability, solid work ethic, and a positive, team-oriented attitude.

Work Environment

You will work in a clean manufacturing environment focused on producing fiber optic products for government and private sector customers. The facility operates a day shift from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, with frequent overtime opportunities on Fridays and additional work on Fridays and Saturdays for 5–8 hours as needed. The assembly area follows clean room–type practices, and you will wear a basic gown similar to a lab coat while performing your tasks. The environment emphasizes safety, organization, and adherence to procedures, with access to hand tools, measurement tools, and standard assembly equipment. Work involves standing or sitting for extended periods, handling small components, and collaborating closely with other team members in a structured production setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tualatin, OR.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
