Job Title: Medical Assembly Technician

Job Description

This role involves assembling and packaging medical devices used in diabetic testing and treatment within a clean-room environment. You will receive hands-on training across multiple operations, including kit packaging, hand assembly, coil winding, and entry-level machine operation. The position emphasizes accuracy, consistency, and attention to detail while working at a steady, fast-paced rhythm where quality always takes priority over quantity.

Responsibilities

• Assemble and package diabetic testing kits by following detailed work orders and standard operating procedures.

• Place 5–10 components into each kit, run the kit through a scanner to register the product ID number, and place completed kits onto racks for final packaging.

• Stand at a packaging station for extended periods while maintaining focus on quality and accuracy, using floor mats for comfort.

• Perform hand assembly of diabetic needles while seated, working with small parts ranging in size from a pen cap to a sewing needle.

• Build up to approximately 1,400 assembled parts per shift through repetitive, precise hand movements while maintaining consistent quality.

• Learn and perform coil winding by using tweezers to place very fine wires into a clamp on a machine and monitoring the machine as it winds coils.

• Inspect coils and other components under a microscope to verify quality and ensure they meet specifications.

• Operate entry-level medical assembly machines that automatically assemble diabetic needles.

• Monitor machines for jams or malfunctions, clear issues safely, and ensure continuous, efficient operation.

• Collect finished products into bags, label them accurately, and check for any visible defects or quality issues.

• Follow all clean-room protocols, including gowning procedures, to maintain a controlled and contamination-free environment.

• Adhere to quality standards and inspection requirements for medical devices, documenting work as needed.

• Work safely around industrial machinery and maintain a clean, organized work area.

• Communicate clearly with supervisors and team members regarding production status, quality concerns, or equipment issues.

• Demonstrate reliable attendance and consistent performance across assigned shifts.

Essential Skills

• Previous medical assembly experience of several months or more.

• Experience working in clean-room or clean-room–regulated environments.

• Experience in medical assembly, electronic assembly, or related assembly work.

• Ability to perform repetitive hand assembly tasks with small components, including parts as small as sewing needles.

• Comfort using microscopes for inspection of small parts and fine details.

• Capability to sit and stand throughout the shift as required by different stations.

• Solid and consistent work history demonstrating reliability and commitment.

• Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with coworkers and leadership.

• Strong attention to detail and quality in a fast-paced production environment.

• Ability to follow written work orders, instructions, and standard operating procedures accurately.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with packaging medical devices or similar regulated products.

• Familiarity with clean-room gowning procedures and working in controlled environments.

• Exposure to inspection processes and quality control in manufacturing or medical device settings.

• Comfort working with industrial machinery and automated equipment.

• Ability to adapt to learning multiple operations, including packaging, hand assembly, coil winding, and machine operation.

• Willingness to work any of the available shifts based on business needs.

Work Environment

You will work in a laid-back but highly quality-conscious clean-room environment that supports the production of medical components. The facility operates with clean-room regulations and requires gowning; however, the gowning level is relatively low, and you can wear makeup and jewelry within guidelines. The shop is well ventilated and includes some industrial machinery, providing a comfortable and safe setting for medical assembly work. You will rotate or be assigned to stations that may require standing for packaging operations or sitting for hand assembly tasks. The workplace uses microscopes for specific inspection tasks, particularly during coil winding, and emphasizes cleanliness and organization. Multiple shifts are available: 1st shift Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., 2nd shift Monday through Friday from 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., and 3rd shift Sunday through Thursday from 11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., offering flexibility to align work hours with your schedule.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Shoreview, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.80 - $18.80/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
