Founding Business Development Representative Fast-Growing AI Infrastructure Startup | San Francisco, CA (In-Person) Overview A rapidly growing venture-backed AI software company is seeking a Founding Business Development Representative to help drive its U.S. expansion. This is an opportunity to join at an early stage and play a key role in defining the outbound sales motion for a category-defining AI platform used by high-growth companies. As the first BDR on the ground, you'll work directly with founders, sales leaders, and marketing to generate pipeline, test messaging, refine ideal customer profiles, and influence go-to-market strategy. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in ambiguity, enjoys building from scratch, and is excited about the intersection of AI, enterprise software, and outbound sales. Responsibilities Build and manage high-quality outbound pipeline through strategic account research and personalized outreach. Identify and engage HR, Finance, Operations, and Transformation leaders at enterprise organizations. Test messaging, positioning, and ICP hypotheses through real-world prospect interactions. Open conversations with target accounts and create qualified sales opportunities. Partner closely with Account Executives, founders, and marketing to improve targeting and outreach strategies. Gather market feedback and provide insights that shape product, messaging, and go-to-market decisions. Maintain rigorous qualification standards to ensure high-quality pipeline generation. Leverage AI and sales technologies to improve prospecting efficiency and personalization. Qualifications Required 3+ years of experience in a BDR, SDR, or outbound commercial sales role within B2B SaaS. Proven ability to consistently generate outbound pipeline and open enterprise accounts. Experience operating in a hunter-focused sales environment with little to no inbound lead support. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Strong prospecting, research, and account-based outreach capabilities. Comfortable working in fast-changing environments with evolving priorities and limited structure. Ability to work onsite in San Francisco Monday through Friday. Preferred Experience at a YC-backed or venture-backed B2B software company. Background selling into emerging markets, competitive categories, or complex buying environments. Hands-on experience using AI and modern sales tools such as Claude, Clay, HubSpot, and ABM platforms. Founder, startup, or entrepreneurial experience. Strong analytical mindset with a passion for testing, learning, and optimizing sales approaches. Curiosity about customer behavior, messaging effectiveness, and sales psychology. Ideal Candidate You are a resilient, highly motivated outbound seller who enjoys creating opportunities where none exist. You don't rely on scripts or inbound demand. Instead, you research deeply, personalize thoughtfully, and continuously refine your approach based on results. You learn quickly from rejection, adapt fast, and are energized by the challenge of building something new. Experience in startup environments, AI tools, and competitive sales motions will make you especially successful in this role. Benefits & Compensation
