Campus Behavioral Health Navigator Department of Psychiatry, University of Texas at Austin – Austin, TX. 40 weekly hours, exempt from FLSA. Position effective immediately with a tentative end date of 31 August 2027, renewable based on funding and performance. Job Summary The Campus Behavioral Health Navigator supports student and family access to behavioral health services by coordinating school‑based and virtual care activities, facilitating tele‑behavioral health appointments, and navigating patients through intake, referral, and follow‑up processes. The Navigator is the primary non‑clinical liaison between the health system and participating schools, ensuring operational alignment, accurate documentation, and compliance with HIPAA, program standards, and school district policies. Essential Job Functions Facilitates school‑based access to virtual behavioral health services, traveling to schools in the designated service area and providing basic telehealth technology setup and troubleshooting. Coordinates guardian participation, aligns student availability with school personnel, and ensures adherence to HIPAA and departmental policies. Serves as the primary operational liaison with participating schools, scheduling on‑site services and maintaining productive relationships with school administrators and support staff. Supports intake, documentation, and care coordination activities by gathering demographic and consent information, assisting with intake workflows, referrals, discharge support, and ensuring accurate, timely documentation in the electronic health record. Manages scheduling and appointment confirmation for virtual visits, collaborating with care coordinators, supervisors, and clinicians to prevent conflicts and communicate details to families and school partners. Provides program and outreach support, including cross‑coverage for related school‑based behavioral health initiatives and participation in outreach or engagement events. Identifies issues and supports continuous improvement by reporting concerns, barriers, or operational issues, proposing solutions, and participating in team meetings and quality improvement activities. Assumes marginal or periodic functions such as onboarding or informal training of new program staff, supporting special projects related to school‑based or tele‑behavioral health services, and completing compliance or continuing education as required. Organizational skills: familiarity with scheduling workflows, referral processes, documentation requirements, electronic health records, and tracking tools. Learning on the fly: willingness to adopt new program requirements, technologies, and workflows, and incorporate supervisory feedback. Integrity and trust: knowledge of HIPAA, confidentiality, privacy standards, and ethical boundaries in non‑clinical support roles. Education & Experience Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in behavioral health–related, social services, education, public health, psychology, human services, or a related field, or equivalent experience. Minimum 3 years of applicable experience in healthcare support, behavioral health services, patient navigation, care coordination, school‑based programming, or community‑based services. Proficiency in electronic systems (Google Suite, Trayt, Athena or Epic, Calendly). Pre‑qualified for classified positions if education and experience can be substituted. Preferred: Bilingual (English/Spanish) proficiency; experience with healthcare payer or provider operational workflows (order entry, referral processing, eligibility verification, visit preparation); prior experience in school‑based or educational environments; knowledge of medical and behavioral health terminology; certification as Certified Community Health Worker (CCHW) or Care Coordination; CPR/BLS if required.
