Position Title: Waste CollectorDepartment: Sanitation DepartmentSalary Grade: 6005 Per Class CodePosition Status: Full Time/Part-TimeFLSA Status: Non-ExemptPosition SummaryUnder general direction, preserves the environment of Santa Clara Pueblo by collection and disposal ofsolid within Pueblo area. Duties,responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice.Essential Duties and Responsibilities• Collects solid residential and commercial waste from trash dumpsters within the Pueblo communityareas using a solid waste collection truck and transfers waste to a collection site.• Inspects trash to ensure it is accepted at the collection site.• Operates the trash truck in a safe manner.• Performs daily inspection before and after trash truck is used.• Makes minor repairs to scrap containers such as repairing dents, and repainting.• Makes routine safety inspections and maintenance of the trash truck including obtaining quotes forrepairs.• Assists program staff or other departments with large projects that may require assistance includingdigging, unclogging drains, moving hot water heaters, and/or locating water shutoff valves, etc.• Performs general laborer duties when not collecting trash or performing truck maintenance.• Must be current, or become current with appropriate NIMS (National Incident ManagementSystems) course (ICS-100, ICS-200, and ICS-700)• Must be available to occasionally work weekends, holidays and after hours if there is an emergency.• Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.• Contributes to a team effort.• Performs other duties as assigned or required.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities• Ability to obtain hazardous waste operations training.• Safe driving skills to operate large trucks.• Potential to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenanceinstructions, and procedure manuals.• Understanding to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written,oral, or diagram form.• Basic knowledge of supporting sanitation staff when needed.• Some computer experience using various MS software.Minimum Qualifications• High school diploma GED; or equivalent combination of education and experience.• Must be CDL Certified.Physical Requirements and Work EnvironmentWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger,handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. Theemployee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee mustoccasionally lift and/or move up to (50) fifty pounds. If an item is above (75) seventy-five pounds, liftingshall be done by two or more Tribal staff members. Specific vision abilities required by this job includeclose vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. Work is performed in a professional office environment with a moderate noise level, occasionally working under stressful conditions and for extended periods of time. This position is routinely exposed to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Travel may be required. Employees must comply with Tribal Safety Guidelines, Policies and Procedures and follow the HIPPA US Department of Health and Human Services Guidelines. Successful completion of the mandatory National Incident ManagementTraining (NIMS) within the first 90 days of employment. Must pass a drug/alcohol test. Must have a valid New Mexico Driver's License and insurable through the Tribe's carrier and not have any DUI/DWI convictions within the last five (5) years from any Tribal, State or Federal Court. Must take and pass a current driving course from General Services Administration.
