Opportunity:

RN - Med Surg/Tele

Job Details:

• Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required
• First-time travelers are accepted
• Patient ratio of 1:4-6 for RN and LPN with 2-3 CNAs per shift
• Care for patients with acute or chronic disease, post-op surgeries, and co-morbidities common to med-surg population including diabetes, hypertension, infections, CHF, and electrolyte imbalances
• Required skills include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucommander, insulin drips, heparin drips, and drips to titrate heart rate
• Strong clinical assessment and med-surg nursing skills required for Level 1 Trauma Hospital setting
• IV insertion and care, central line management, wound care, and post-op monitoring required
• Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation required
• Care coordination with interdisciplinary teams and discharge planning responsibilities
• EMR system: EPIC
• IV Pump: Alaris; Medication dispensing: Pyxis; Monitors: Phillips
• Additional unit equipment includes VS3 vital sign monitors, portable vital signs monitors, bladder scanners, portable oxygen systems, external fixators, chest tubes, JP drains, Hemovac drains, Glucommander, PCA pain management, and suction machines
• May be required to float to all adult med-surg/telemetry units in house
• Scrub color: Navy for RN
• BLS (Basic Life Support) required
• Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) required - traveler will be required to pass an EKG competency exam
• ACLS preferred but not required
• Medical-Surgical national certification preferred but not required

Facility:

This facility is a large acute care hospital with 637 licensed beds and holds a Level 1 Trauma Designation. It operates as a teaching hospital and includes specialized centers for chest pain and stroke care. The 35-bed Med Surg/Tele unit maintains a busy but team-oriented culture, supported by a robust interdisciplinary team including CNAs, unit secretaries, charge nurses, a PICC team, discharge nurses, resource team, respiratory therapy, hospitalists, intensivists, and a central telemetry monitoring unit available around the clock.
