The facility has 637 licensed beds and is designed to provide Level 1 trauma care. This role involves working at a teaching hospital recognized as a chest pain and stroke center. The MedSurg unit accommodates between 20 to 36 beds, with a patient ratio of 1:4-6 for RNs and LPNs. This role includes caring for patients with various acute and chronic conditions. Common diagnoses include cardiac cases, post-surgical recovery, as well as management of comorbidities such as diabetes and hypertension. Telemetry skills are essential, including the ability to monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms. You will be responsible for management of IV drips and conducting thorough patient assessments. Additionally, this position involves care coordination with an interdisciplinary team and discharge planning. Support within the department includes assistance from CNAs and unit secretaries during peak hours. You may also have resources available such as respiratory therapists and hospitalists 24/7. Travelers will be required to float to different MedSurg and Tele units as needed, including emergency departments for patient holds. Weekend rotations will consist of working 5-6 weekend shifts over a 6-week schedule. Holiday expectations include working one shift of each major holiday. Scrubs should be navy for RNs and ceil blue for LPNs. The unit culture is busy and team-oriented.
