Opportunity:

RN - Med Surg/Tele

Job Details:

• Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required
• First-time travelers are accepted
• Patient ratio of 1:4-6 for RN and LPN with 2-3 CNAs per shift
• Care for patients with acute or chronic disease, post-op surgeries, and co-morbidities common to med-surg population including diabetes, hypertension, infections, CHF, and electrolyte imbalances
• Required skills include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucommander, insulin drips, heparin drips, and drips to titrate heart rate
• Strong clinical assessment and med-surg nursing skills required for Level 1 Trauma Hospital setting
• IV insertion and care, central line management, wound care, and post-op monitoring required
• Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation required
• Care coordination with interdisciplinary teams and discharge planning required
• EMR system: EPIC
• IV Pump: Alaris; Medication dispensing: Pyxis; Monitors: Phillips
• Unit-specific equipment includes VS3 vital sign monitors, portable vital signs monitors (Dynamapp), bladder scanners, portable oxygen systems, external fixators, chest tubes, JP drains, Hemovac drains, glucommander, PCA pain management, and suction machines
• Float to all adult med-surg/telemetry units in-house as needed
• Orientation includes 1 day with educational modules and 2 days departmental
• Required certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support) and BCR (Basic Cardiac Rhythm) - traveler will be required to pass an EKG competency exam
• ACLS preferred but not required
• Medical-Surgical national certification preferred
• Scrub color: Navy for RN

Facility:

This facility is a 637-licensed-bed teaching hospital holding a Level 1 Trauma Designation and housing specialized centers including a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center. The 35-bed Med Surg/Tele unit maintains a busy but collaborative team culture with robust departmental support including CNAs, unit secretaries, charge nurses, a PICC team, discharge nurses, resource team, respiratory therapy, hospitalists, intensivists, and a Central Telemetry Unit, all available around the clock.
