Job Title Health Care Technician I (S) Description of Work The Health Care Technician position provides direct patient care by managing the milieu on the unit through close observation and interaction with patients. This position fosters a therapeutic environment and assists in the activities of daily living. They provide support to patients working toward the goals and objectives of their treatment and monitor medical, emotional, behavioral, and social problems. The Health Care Technician is responsible for transporting patients to appointments outside the medical facility. Responsibilities and Requirements This position is designated as mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events. Knowledge of a variety of psychiatric, intellectual disabilities, medical and/or other related conditions. Ability to learn behavior management and supportive counseling techniques. Ability to deliver services in an organized timely manner. Knowledge of nursing methods and techniques in caring for medical, surgical and mentally ill patients. Salary and Sign‑On Bonus Recruitment Range: $31,200.00 - $46,348.00 A sign‑on bonus of $2,000 may be offered to the successful applicant(s) of this posting, contingent on the 2025-2026 Budget Approval. Shift Premiums (12‑Hour Shifts) Evenings/Night (6:45pm - 7:15am): Monday‑Friday 10%, Saturday and Sunday 15% Eligibility: a new permanent full‑time or part‑time employee must work 30‑40 hours per week to qualify for the sign‑on bonus. Those working less than 40 hours receive a prorated rate. Sign‑On Bonus Eligibility Employee has held a position in the North Carolina State Government, judicial system, or University of North Carolina system within the last 12 months (ineligible for 12 months from separation date) Employee has previously received a sign‑on bonus from any State agency DHHS paid any contract placement or recruitment fees About the Facility The Walter B. Jones Center operates two adult inpatient treatment programs on site in Greenville, NC: Woodside Treatment Center and Lakeside Psychiatric Hospital. The primary purpose and mission of the Walter B. Jones Center is “To provide inpatient treatment, psychiatric stabilization and medical detoxification for individuals with mental health, substance use and other co‑occurring psychiatric diagnoses for ongoing community‑based treatment and recovery.” The Center is accredited by the Joint Commission and offers specialty programs for all 100 NC counties, including inpatient treatment for adults and inpatient services for women in their first, second, and third trimesters with substance use disorders. Minimum Education And Experience High school diploma or General Educational Development diploma; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special conditions for continued employment as required, listed as a Nurse Aide I by the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation. As applicable, listing as a Nurse Aide II by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. As applicable, North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification.
