Company OverviewTango Therapeutics is a biotechnology company dedicated to discovering novel drug targets and delivering the next generation of precision medicine for the treatment of cancer.Using an approach that starts and ends with patients, Tango leverages the genetic principle of synthetic lethality to discover and develop therapies that take aim at critical targets in cancer.This includes expanding the universe of precision oncology targets into novel areas such as tumor suppressor gene loss and their contribution to the ability of cancer cells to evade immune cell killing.The Tango labs and offices are located at 201 Brookline Avenue, in the Fenway area of Boston, Massachusetts.Summary:We are seeking a highly skilled, motivated attorney to join our team as Director, Intellectual Property. Reporting to the General Counsel, this role will lead Tango’s intellectual property function and manage all facets of IP through the various stages of product development. This role will implement the company’s intellectual property strategy in the oncology space, counsel internal clients, manage patent filing and prosecution, review publications, track regulatory exclusivities for each product, perform freedom to operate analysis, handle trademark prosecution, and oversee IP litigation. Further, this role will work closely with the Business Development team to support strategic transactions. Responsibilities:IP Strategy Development: Design and implement comprehensive IP strategies aligned with the company's R&D and business objectives.Portfolio Management: Oversee the global IP portfolio, including freedom-to-operate analyses, patentability assessments, and IP risk mitigation.Cross-functional collaboration: provide IP counseling to in-house clients within discovery and development functions such as chemistry, CMC, and other functional areas through all phases of drug research, development, and commercializationStrategic transaction support: Assist Business Development and Research teams with intellectual property aspects of transactional, licensing, and strategic agreements, including material transfer agreements, licensing agreements, and sponsored research agreementsPatent applications and prosecution: Prepare patent applications (with the assistance of outside counsel); maintain prosecution docket of all U.S. and foreign patent applications, including post-grant practices as they may arise with prosecutionImplement trade secret best practices to protect technology not subject to patent protectionActively contribute to the legal function by building a positive culture, fostering engagement, sharing best practices and participating in initiatives focused on building departmental and functional knowledge and competencies.Education & ExperienceJ.D. from an accredited law school and admitted to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdictionA minimum of 8-10 years of legal experience at a top-tier law firm and/or in a biotech company’s legal departmentIn-house experience at an early-stage pharmaceutical/biotech company strongly preferredLicensing and technology transactional experience (including with co-development, co-commercialization, and/or distribution agreements) preferredExperience developing global IP strategy required, with the objective of supporting the development of a comprehensive commercial strategy to protect product exclusivity rightsMust have direct experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications and conducting or directing Freedom to Operate analysesAbility to work independently and within a team environmentDeveloped sense of judgment, risk management skills, and ability to balance legal matters involving multiple stakeholders and various prioritiesAbility to concisely, succinctly, and clearly communicate complex IP concepts and strategy to stakeholders with limited exposure to IP conceptsAbility to interpret legal requirements and deliver pragmatic, business-oriented guidanceProven capability to manage multiple priorities and collaborative effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environmentExcellent verbal and written communication skillsWe are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company.We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.Salary range $198,400—$297,600 USD
