Director, Intellectual Property Operations

Director leading intellectual property operations at a biopharmaceutical company, overseeing patent and trademark administration, team management, and process optimization. Reports to the Executive Director of IP and works cross-functionally with legal, finance, and external counsel in a Boston-based hybrid role.

Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain IP Operations roadmap with measurable outcomes and strategic initiatives
  • Lead and develop a team of paralegals for docketing, annuity management, and portfolio administration
  • Develop technology and data strategy including system governance and software implementation
  • Manage annual IP budget with forecasting, cost optimization, and vendor governance
  • Drive process improvements and operational excellence across cross-functional workflows

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience
  • 10+ years managing legal operations paralegals or intellectual property operations teams
  • Demonstrated success leading teams and managing complex cross-functional projects
  • Experience implementing enterprise software and managing large data sets
  • Strong financial management including budgeting, forecasting, and vendor oversight
  • Experience with AI and automation tools for operational improvement
  • Ability to advise senior leaders and prepare executive communications
