Chief of the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine

The Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo (JSMBS) and Department of Medicine seek an accomplished academic physician leader to serve as the next Chief of the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine (Chief). This role presents a unique chance to lead a well-established division with significant strengths in clinical care, research, and education while shaping its next phase of growth and national prominence.

The successful candidate will bring a growth mindset. They will have the opportunity to build upon a strong division that includes 14 faculty investigators and clinicians 14 pulmonary/critical care fellows and three sleep medicine fellows, growing extramural research support, and collaborating closely with the University at Buffalo's Clinical and Translational Science Institute. The Division's research portfolio encompasses major areas of pulmonary and critical care medicine, including COPD, pulmonary fibrosis, respiratory infections, cystic fibrosis, pulmonary hypertension, sleep disorders, lung cancer, and critical care outcomes research.

Reporting directly to the Department Chair of Medicine, the next Chief will be expected to establish a compelling vision for the Division through strengthening relationships with clinical partners, recruit and develop outstanding faculty, expand research funding and scholarly productivity and grow the Division's clinical footprint throughout the region. This leader also will serve as an advocate for the Division across JSMBS and affiliated health systems while fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, collaboration, and excellence.

The successful Chief will be a collaborative, visible, and inspirational leader who combines academic achievement with administrative effectiveness and a deep commitment to patient-centered care. The ideal candidate will possess a distinguished record of research and clinical accomplishments, demonstrated success leading complex academic programs, and the ability to unite faculty, trainees, and staff around a shared vision for excellence. An M.D. or D.O. degree is required, along with completion of a postgraduate medical education in pulmonary, critical care or sleep medicine. The candidate must meet qualifications to be appointed at the Associate Professor level or above at JSMBS.
