Refund Specialist - HB/PB Cash Postings & Credits | PeaceHealth Part-Time | 0.50 FTE | Day Shift Remote in Washington, Oregon, or Alaska Must reside and work in WA, OR, or AK and live within a one-hour drive of a PeaceHealth hospital Pay Range: $19.62 - $29.44 per hour

About the Role

As a Refund Specialist, you'll help ensure patient and payer accounts are accurate, compliant, and resolved correctly. You'll research credit balances, process refunds, identify payment issues, and serve as a knowledgeable resource for questions related to patient accounts. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys investigating payment discrepancies, solving problems, and helping create a better financial experience for patients.

What You'll Do

1. Review patient and insurance credit balances to determine the correct resolution.
2. Research account activity and payment history.
3. Process refunds accurately and timely.
4. Resolve overpayments and account discrepancies.
5. Analyze Provider Level Adjustments (PLBs) and apply corrections when appropriate.
6. Identify payment trends, posting errors, and recurring issues.
7. Escalate concerns that may affect multiple accounts or processes.
8. Request billing corrections, rebills, or adjustments when needed.
9. Respond to questions from patients, insurance companies, and internal teams.
10. Maintain accurate account documentation.
11. Complete assigned work queues and reports.
12. Follow state, federal, and payer requirements.
13. Support accurate financial controls and cash handling procedures.

What You'll Bring

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of experience in medical billing, cash posting, insurance follow-up, or a related revenue cycle role.

OR

• Formal training or college coursework from an accredited medical coding or medical billing program may be considered in lieu of experience.

Additional Required Experience & Knowledge

• Experience working with insurance EOBs and electronic remittance advice (835s).
• Knowledge of bank lockbox processes.
• Understanding of medical terminology.
• Strong attention to detail and account reconciliation skills.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office applications, and 10-key data entry.
• Knowledge of insurance reimbursement and billing practices.
• Basic accounting knowledge.

Preferred Qualifications

• EPIC experience.
• Medical Billing Certificate.
• Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR).
• HealthStream Badge.
