Responsibilities
- Set up Vertical Machining Centers on second shift using provided setup sheets and traveler produced by the Programmer
- Run jobs on second shift — monitor machine output, maintain quality standards, and keep spindles moving
- Conduct and document first article inspection on every setup before releasing to production
- Communicate shift-end status to day shift lead — what ran, what is still in queue, any issues or quality flags
- Identify and flag any tooling shortages, program errors, or print questions before they cause downtime — does not guess; does not proceed on an assumption that could result in scrap
- Maintain machine area cleanliness and tooling accountability during shift
- Begin developing programming awareness — watching how setup sheets connect to programs, asking questions, starting to build the knowledge base for the programmer pathway
