A well-established manufacturer of engineered equipment serving water, wastewater, environmental, industrial, and process applications is seeking an experienced Field Service Technician . This position is responsible for commissioning, inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining complex mechanical and electrical equipment at customer facilities throughout the United States. The role offers substantial technical independence and is best suited for a service professional who enjoys diagnosing equipment problems, working directly with customers, and taking ownership of field assignments from initial evaluation through completion.

Professional Responsibility and Scope

The Field Service Technician will perform equipment startups, inspections, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and mechanical rebuilds on engineered rotating equipment and related systems. Responsibilities include evaluating equipment condition, identifying probable causes of mechanical or process failures, recommending corrective action, and completing repairs using established service procedures.

The position also involves installing, configuring, calibrating, and maintaining pneumatic, analog, and digital instrumentation. The technician will work with electrical, pneumatic, and fluid connections and will troubleshoot equipment controls, industrial communication systems, TCP/IP networks, and RS 485 communications. Candidates should be comfortable interpreting controls documentation and evaluating how mechanical equipment interacts with the customer's broader process.

Successful technicians will read and interpret engineering drawings, electrical diagrams, equipment documentation, assembly instructions, and service checklists. They will also communicate directly with customers regarding equipment condition, recommended repairs, service options, progress during the assignment, and final operating status. Written service reports will document failure causes, completed work, materials used, and equipment condition.

The technician may also provide customer training and support engineering personnel with equipment modifications, system planning, and operational safety reviews.

Location and Lifestyle Context

This is a national field service position requiring approximately 100 percent travel Monday-Friday. Technicians should expect to spend approximately four nights (M-Th) per week away from home on an ongoing basis, with occasional travel assignments scheduled on short notice. Work is performed primarily at customer facilities across industrial, municipal, and infrastructure environments.

Compensation

Candidates should bring approximately four or more years of field service, equipment repair, industrial maintenance, or comparable experience. Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to interpret mechanical, dimensional, assembly, and electrical diagrams are important.

Experience using precision measurement instruments such as micrometers, dial indicators, feeler gauges, and coordinate measuring equipment is expected. Candidates should also be comfortable using hand tools, power tools, hydraulic equipment, welding equipment, ladders, forklifts, and calibrated measurement devices.

A clean driving record is required. Candidates must also be able and willing to maintain the extensive travel schedule associated with a national field service position.
