Essential Functions

Compliance:

1. Ensure that all client environments are in compliance with minimum standards
2. Maintain client safety guidelines
3. Supervise and monitor clients closely at all times in accordance with the Treatment Team recommendations
4. Ensure that client treatment is in accordance with the client's Treatment Plan and IEP
5. Ensure that clients are free from neglect and abuse
6. Report allegations of neglect and abuse to TDFPS and/or Executive Director or designee
7. Maintain client confidentiality
8. Ensure that all clients are properly supervised and cared for according to BAC Policy
9. Adhere to employee rules and company policy
10. Adhere to the BAC Code of Conduct and Code of Ethics
11. Ensure that BAC is a harassment-free work place
12. Report concerns to a supervisor
13. Relay information to supervisor and / or appropriate staff
14. Follow through with supervisor requests / assignments

Education:

1. Assist classroom teacher in implementation and evaluation of IEP goals and objectives and documentation
2. Facilitate learning activities for all individuals throughout each school day
3. Maintain educational atmosphere

Teaching Home:

1. Ensure that the home is clean and free from unsanitary conditions at all times
2. Maintain a learning atmosphere in the home that respects the needs of all individuals
3. Take initiative to perform household related activities (laundry, dusting, sweeping, mopping, cooking, cleaning, etc.)

without being asked by supervisor

1. Follow through with Treatment Plan and IEP implementation in the home and community environments
2. Follow through with educational program in the home by:

a. supervising / assisting client in completing homework / assignments

b. encouraging functional independence

c. encouraging appropriate social behavior

22. Take initiative to develop/schedule activities for clients during down time

a. following through with recreational program/calendar by developing and engaging clients in client focused

recreational activities that:

1. lead to independence

2. encourage social interactions with peers and adults

3. are age appropriate and socially appropriate

b. following through with the animal therapy program by:

1. engaging clients with animals in cooperation with animal care services

2. training and assisting clients to care for animals including feeding, grooming, and maintaining the

animals areas

1. Monitor and assist clients with self-care including toileting (changing soiled clothes), showering, dressing, shaving, etc. according to schedule and as needed
2. Safely transport clients to and from school and community

Documentation:

1. Accurately complete appropriate documentation and data collection for clients
2. Adequately maintain receipts and records of client expenditures ensuring appropriate use of funds

Physical Interventions:

1. Utilize physical prompting with clients appropriately
2. Safely implements Emergency Behavior Intervention in order to minimize potential injury to a child

Attitude:

1. Work cooperatively as a team member
2. Display positive work attitude
3. Support all areas of the program (Educational Program, Recreation, Animal Care, etc.)
4. Demonstrate professionalism
5. Treat staff and coworkers with respect
6. Promote positive image of BAC while in the community and dealing with community
7. Refrain from allowing personal opinions or biases to interfere with client progress
8. Model appropriate social behavior to clients at all times

Treatment of Clients:

1. Treat clients with kindness, dignity, and respect
2. Encourage independence for all clients
3. Provide "normalized" environment
4. Address behavior by separating the behavior from the person
5. Employ consequences that are instructive and not punitive
6. Strive to establish a therapeutic relationship with residents
7. Assure that each client is appropriately bathed and clothed
8. Assure that each client is fed well-balanced meals, plus snacks
9. Advise management of any medical, behavioral, or academic needs of the client
10. Discipline clients as outlined in agency policy

Implementation of Personal Knowledge and Skills:

1. Implement training and put into functional practice in all settings
2. Implement behavior management techniques in accordance with training and policies
3. Verbally intervene with clients appropriately
4. Utilize principles of reinforcement appropriately
5. Implement the client's programs in proactive and consistent manner

General:

1. Comply with attendance requirements
2. Perform job requirements without requiring excessive supervision
3. Take initiative/be proactive in carrying out job duties
4. Refrain from pursuing personal activities while on duty or allowing personal issues to interfere with work
5. Exhibit good time management skills

Personnel File:

1. Maintain continuing education as appropriate including licenses, certification, and training hours
2. Keep personnel folder in compliance

Other:

1. Any other assigned duties as outlined by Program Director, or Executive Director

Physical Activities

• Must be able to provide close, constant, and continual supervision of clients

• Must be able to perform an Emergency Behavior Intervention
• Must be able to lift fifty pounds. Must also stand, walk, run, squat, bend, lift, carry, and sit for excessive periods of time

Setting

• Working indoor and outdoor settings

Conditions

• Must participate in physical activities with clients during PE and other recreational activities (i.e. physical games, walking, pet care, etc.).
• Some work-related activities may be strenuous
• Working with clients throughout the day, even during meal time
• No designated breaks
  • Entire shift is spent focused on needs of clients - personal errands or appointments must be done during off time
  • No phone, email, texting, or other outside communications (including electronic) until the evening when all duties are completed and clients are asleep

Job Skills/Requirements:

A. Education:

Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in related field


OR

Minimum High School Diploma / GED with documented college experience and related work experience

1. Certification:

Required - CPR

Required - First Aid


C. Training:

Complete additional annual training according to the Teaching Parent Training Calendar

D. License:

A current valid Texas Drivers License with the ability to be insured under commercial vehicle liability insurance.

E. Other Requirements:

1. Must be at least 21 years of age (according to TDFPS)
2. Must pass Criminal History Check
3. Must pass Drug and Alcohol Testing (initial, on-going, and random)

Physical Demand:

Due to the nature of this job, many of the areas related to physical demand are "very heavy" at times and sedentary at others. However, they are marked as "VH" because when necessary the strength required is "very heavy". Not being able to meet the physical demands could pose risk to the individual, the clients, or others.
