Position Summary

The Prep Cook is responsible for supporting the kitchen team with food preparation, station setup, and maintaining high standards of quality, cleanliness, and organization. This role plays an important part in ensuring ingredients are prepared efficiently and consistently to support smooth kitchen operations.

Role Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation and production of menu items according to recipes and chef direction.
• Prepare ingredients including washing, peeling, cutting, portioning, and storing food properly.
• Set up and stock assigned kitchen stations with necessary supplies.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, equipment, and storage spaces.
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards at all times.
• Ensure proper labeling, dating, and rotation of food products.
• Support senior chefs during service by restocking, plating assistance, and basic cooking tasks.
• Properly handle kitchen tools, knives, and equipment.
• Assist with receiving and storing deliveries as directed.
• Minimize food waste and handle ingredients with care and respect.
• Any other tasks assigned by a supervisor.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

• Previous experience as a prep cook or in a similar role preferred.
• Knowledge of kitchen operations and food preparation techniques.
• Familiarity with food safety regulations and procedures.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Excellent knife skills for chopping, slicing, and dicing ingredients.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
• Ability to communicate with all team members effectively.
• Strong work ethic and customer-focused approach.
• Ability to work on a flexible schedule including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to perform essential job functions consistently, safely, and successfully with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.  
• Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards. 
• May be able to lift and carry up to 25 - 50 lbs at times. 
• Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly frequent movements from place to place within the work area and property.  Bend, lift, carry, reach/extend arms, and hands above shoulder height frequently, or otherwise move in a constantly changing environment.  
• Climbing steps regularly.  
• Prolonged periods of standing. 

Compensation

• The hourly pay range for this position is between $18-$20.
• The determination of what a specific employee in this job classification is paid depends on a number of factors, including, but not limited to, prior to employment experience, job-related knowledge, qualifications, and skills, etc.
