Summary Our electronics technicians are skilled in electronic equipment design, development, evaluation, testing, installation, and maintenance. They're knowledgeable in the capabilities, limitations, operations, design, characteristics, and functional use of a variety of types and models of electronic equipment and systems. Education All degrees must be from an accredited college or university. A degree is NOT required for this position, however, e ducation may be substituted for specialized experience as follows: GS-7 : Applicant must have a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement or one (1) full year of graduate level education. Superior academic achievement is the completion of all the requirements of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, which is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average of 3.0 or higher as recorded on an official transcript, or as based on courses completed during the final two years of the curriculum, or (3) honor society membership. GS-9 : Applicant must have a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related. GS-10/11/12 : Education cannot be substituted for SE at these grade levels. Degrees must be in one of the following fields: Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology, Electronics Technology, Computer Science, or Telecommunications. Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above requirements provided you can show foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States. Additional information To attract and retain highly qualified candidates, selectees may be eligible for a recruitment incentive of up to 20% or, for eligible current federal employees, a relocation incentive of up to 15%. Eligibility for a relocation incentive requires proof of a change in residence and an assignment at a worksite in a different geographic area greater than or equal to 50 miles from the prior worksite. Employees must sign a written service agreement completing a specified period of employment with the FBI at the new duty station. Recruitment and relocation incentives cannot be combined. - Perform installation, maintenance, and operational testing required to maintain the Bureau's communication and intrusion systems in optimum condition.
- Perform maintenance and service functions required to obtain optimum operational capability of a wide variety of complex equipment incorporated into the FM radio, radio teletype, secure telephone, data and teletype, and intrusion Systems.
- Use test equipment and advanced techniques to perform installation, maintenance and repair tasks as well as the operational testing of the FM radio system (base stations, repeaters, remote and mobile transmitters/receivers and personal equipment).
- Conduct preventive maintenance by regularly inspecting and testing equipment for reliability and accuracy to prevent breakdown.
- Perform corrective maintenance to restore a system which is out of operating condition through extensive analytical testing, take positive action to replace or repair deficient or malfunctioning components and units.
- Review pertinent technical manuals, remain current with technology, and be available to attend government sponsored training classes.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must have (or be able to obtain) a valid driver's license.
- Must be able to obtain a Top Secret-SCI clearance.
- Some travel may be required.
- Assisted with the physical installation and maintenance of electronic communication systems.
- Conducted routine equipment tests; performed basic corrections and/or replacing defective parts.
- Handled, stored, and inventoried a variety of electronic equipment and components.
- Performed physical installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electronic communication systems.
- Performed installations and preventive and corrective (or emergency) maintenance and service work on FM radio systems, data networks, or electronic physical security systems.
- Inspected equipment for adherence to standards and tolerances.
- Utilized test equipment and accepted techniques to perform installation, maintenance and repair tasks, and operational testing in at least one of the following areas: FM radio systems, data networks, and/or electronic physical security systems.
- Performed work with AC and DC circuits that includes: reading schematics, identifying electronic components, installing components, and soldering.
- Utilized test equipment and advanced techniques to perform installation, maintenance and repair tasks, and operational testing in at least two of the following areas: FM radio systems, data networks, and/or electronic physical security systems.
- Worked with the application of advanced electronics concepts using various electronics testing equipment including the multi-meter, oscilloscope (single and dual trace), spectrum analyzer, watt meter, frequency counter, spectrum analyzer, distortion analyzer, etc.
- Assembled and installed electronic devices and equipment; utilizing various applicable hand and power tools.
- Provided network configuration services that involve an understanding of various IP network protocols and sub-netting.
- Assisted higher graded technician(s) in carrying out electronic installation, replacement, and maintenance work.
- Utilized test equipment and advanced techniques to perform installation, maintenance and repair tasks, and operational testing in each of the following areas: FM radio systems, data networks, and electronic physical security systems.
- Performed technician work involving AC and DC circuits that involved interpreting schematics and the utilization/integration of various electronic components.
- Carried out the installation, replacement, and analysis of electronic security systems; making recommendations on design or alteration based on data collected through testing or other analytical methods.
- Provided physical installation and configuration of network devices (routers, switches, and encryption devices) that involved an understanding of IP network protocols, Virtual Private Networks, and sub-netting.
- Conducted a competent inspection, maintenance, and repair program to insure optimum operational capability of all electronic and electro-mechanical systems and equipment including stand-by and emergency equipment and/or systems.
