Clinical Nurse (RN) - Neurosurgery (AAU L6) - 0.9 FTE, 12-HR, Night Shift

Night – 12 Hour Shift (United States of America) STANFORD HEALTH CARE invites applications for a Clinical Nurse (CN) RN. The role is based in the United States and covers 12‑hour overnight shifts. A Brief Overview The Clinical Nurse is an RN who provides hands‑on patient care employing evidence‑based practices within the Scope of Practice of the California Nursing Practice Act, regulatory requirements, standards of care, and hospital policies. Within that role, the CN performs all steps of the nursing process, including assessing patients; interpreting data; planning, implementing, and evaluating care; coordinating care with other providers; and teaching patients and families the knowledge and skills needed to manage their care and prevent complications. The CN partners with patients’ families wherever possible, considering all aspects of care, to deliver family‑centered care. The CN monitors quality of nursing care and maintains professional development, licensure, and required certifications. What you will do Establish Therapeutic Relationships: Create and maintain a climate conducive to healing by being present to the patient and family, identifying and managing discomforts, providing emotional support and information, and guiding the patient and family through phases of illness, recovery, and death in accordance with the patient’s goals and culture. Diagnostic and Monitoring Functions: Obtain accurate and relevant assessment data, interpret normal vs. abnormal findings, determine nursing diagnoses, and monitor and evaluate data as frequently as needed based on stability. Plan and Implement Therapeutic Interventions: Collaborate with the patient, family, and health‑care team to develop an individualized plan of care, implement nursing and medical interventions safely, evaluate effectiveness of interventions, and monitor patients for adverse responses and side effects. Teaching and Coaching: Assess patients’ and families’ learning needs and readiness, provide self‑care and illness‑prevention education, adjust information based on responses, and teach other staff members both incidentally and through formal roles such as preceptor or super‑user. Effective Management of Rapidly Changing Situations: Quickly grasp problem situations, respond appropriately, activate emergency protocols, and maintain patient safety. Monitor and Ensure Quality Healthcare Practices: Monitor own practice and assist in monitoring others for safety and compliance with standards and policies, and seek opportunities for continual improvement in patient care and the work environment. Organization and Work Role Functions: Integrate multiple requests, set priorities, delegate tasks appropriately, and seek assistance as needed; contribute to team building, positive morale, and conflict resolution. Education: Attain knowledge and competence that reflect current nursing practice and demonstrate commitment to lifelong learning. Communication: Communicate effectively in a variety of formats across all areas of practice. Leadership: Demonstrate leadership in the professional practice setting and within the nursing profession. Professional Practice Evaluation: Evaluate own nursing practice against professional standards and guidelines, statutes, rules, and regulations. Education and Qualifications Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited college or university is preferred. Experience: 2 years of RN experience in an acute care setting is required; 1-year Medical‑Surgical Nursing experience strongly preferred; neuro experience is preferred. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Communicate effectively in English. Current American Heart Association Certification for Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS). Current American Heart Association Certification for Advanced Cardiac Life Support for Healthcare Providers (ACLS). Current American Heart Association Certification for National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS). CA‑RN (Registered Nurse) license. Physical Demands and Work Conditions The work involves considerable exertion such as frequent lifting of patients and equipment, bending and stooping, and walking. The environment involves moderate risks or discomforts, requiring safety precautions for exposure to infectious disease, radiation, or emotionally disturbed patients. Final pay is based on internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
