Position Summary:

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) for a temporary respite case provides short-term, compassionate care and supervision to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The DSP’s primary role is to ensure the safety, comfort, and well-being of the individual while offering relief to their primary caregiver.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide direct care and supervision according to the individual’s support plan (ISP).

• Ensure the participant’s health, safety, and comfort at all times.

• Engage the individual in appropriate recreational, educational, or daily living activities.

• Assist with personal care, hygiene, mobility, and meal preparation as needed.

• Administer medications (if authorized and trained) and follow any health-related protocols.

• Implement behavior support strategies and follow care guidelines provided by the support team.

• Document daily activities, incidents, and progress notes accurately and timely.

• Communicate effectively with supervisors, family members, and other support staff.

• Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality at all times.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 18 years of age .

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.

• Prior experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.

• Must pass a background check , drug screening , and Central Registry clearance.

• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation preferred.

• Must complete required DDD trainings, including CPR/First Aid , and Abuse/Neglect training prior to assignment.

• Ability to follow care plans and respond to individual needs.

• Sound judgment and ability to remain calm in emergencies.

• Flexibility to work varying schedules, including evenings or weekends if required.
