Vice President, Finance
$150k - $170kFeeding America
Responsibilities The VP, Finance owns budgeting, forecasting, financial planning & analysis (FP&A), and organization-wide financial performance, ensuring that programs, operations, and growth initiatives are financially viable, measurable, and aligned with mission impact. Equally important, this leader drives cross-functional change—ensuring that financial plans, systems, and processes are not only designed effectively, but adopted consistently across the organization. Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Leadership: Own annual budgeting, rolling forecasts, and long‑range financial planning. Develop financial models to support program growth, funding scenarios, and operational decisions. Establish KPIs and performance tracking frameworks across the organization. Strategic Translation & Decision Support: Convert organizational strategy into actionable financial insights and trade‑offs. Provide forward‑looking analysis on risks, opportunities, and resource allocation. Support executive decision‑making with clear, data‑driven recommendations. Frame financial implications of key initiatives, including full cost and opportunity cost. Change Leadership & Organizational Transformation: Lead cross‑functional change initiatives that improve financial planning, performance, and decision‑making. Drive adoption of new processes, systems, and ways of working across departments. Apply a structured, project‑management‑oriented approach to implementation—establishing clear ownership, timelines, and success measures. Champion equity‑aligned practices in how change is designed and implemented, ensuring transparency, inclusive engagement, and that impacts on teams are thoughtfully considered. Operational Finance & Accountability: Lead organization‑wide budgeting processes across departments. Monitor financial performance, identifying variances and driving accountability. Embed financial discipline into day‑to‑day decision‑making across teams. Systems & Infrastructure Leadership: Own financial planning systems, reporting tools, and performance dashboards. Partner with the Controller on ERP optimization and data integrity. Drive scalable finance processes that support growth and organizational complexity. Cross‑Functional Partnership: Serve as a trusted financial partner to program, operations, development, and executive teams. Translate financial data into actionable insights for non‑finance leaders. Ensure financial considerations are embedded early in organizational initiatives. Team Leadership & Development: Lead and develop the Controller and broader finance team. Build strong accountability structures and performance expectations. Actively cultivate an inclusive, high‑performing team culture where individuals feel valued, supported, and accountable for results. Foster a thriving team culture grounded in shared ownership, deep collaboration, and a commitment to growing better together. Candidate Profile We recognize that there is a spectrum of lived and professional experience that will set candidates up for success in this role. Ideal candidates will display the following professional and personal qualities, skills, and characteristics: A Strategic Finance Leader and Thought Partner Translates organizational strategy into clear financial plans with measurable outcomes; serves as a thought partner to leadership. Brings deep FP&A expertise: annual budgeting, rolling forecasts, financial modeling, and scenario analysis across complex funding environments including government grants, restricted funds, and earned revenue. Grounds problem‑solving in clear thinking: defines the real issue, names the risk of action and inaction, quantifies impact, and presents options with full costs including opportunity costs. Balances mission, compliance, and administrative responsibilities in designing financial solutions that are both rigorous and workable. A Change Leader and Organizational Implementer Has led cross‑functional change initiatives through co‑creation - actively engaging stakeholders to shape financial processes, systems and ways of working that are practical, inclusive and sustainable. Applies a structured, project management‑oriented approach to implementation while creating space for input, iteration and shared ownership. Builds alignment through early and ongoing engagement, surfacing perspectives, anticipating resistance, and incorporating feedback to strengthen solutions and ensure lasting adoption. Fosters a high level of transparency and trust throughout the change process, helping teams understand the “why,” see themselves in the work, and stay meaningfully connected to outcomes. Curious and agile; comfortable leading through transformation while balancing organizational engagement with the need to deliver and maintain day‑to‑day operational performance. A Skilled Communicator and Cross‑Functional Partner Translates numbers into operational insights that non‑finance leaders can act on; demonstrates strong presentation and communication skills. Partners effectively across programs, operations, development, and executive leadership to align financial resources with organizational priorities. Manages up effectively: brings issues forward with context, options, and a clear recommendation. Thinks outside the box; brings creativity and flexibility to problem‑solving across a complex, mission‑driven environment. An Empathetic and Mission‑Aligned People Leader Develops managers into confident, accountable leaders; establishes clear expectations, strong accountability structures and a high‑performance bar grounded in clarity, consistency and follow‑through. Creates the conditions for a thriving team culture where individuals feel safe, supported, and empowered to contribute—while also being clear about goals, ownership, and results. Leads with emotional intelligence and approachability; builds trust across teams with diverse backgrounds and expertise, and fosters open dialogue, constructive feedback and healthy challenge. Actively invests in team development and well‑being, recognizing that sustainable performance requires both support and stretch; ensures team members have the clarity, resources, and coaching needed to succeed. Genuinely committed to MFB’s mission; understands the importance of financial rigor in sustaining an organization dedicated to ending hunger, and brings an equity mindset in balancing strong stewardship with mission delivery. Education and Experience 10+ years of progressive finance experience with a strong background in FP&A, financial modeling, and operational finance. Demonstrated experience leading budgeting and forecasting in a complex organization with multiple funding streams. Experience with ERP systems and financial planning tools; comfort driving system implementation and optimization. Nonprofit and grant funding experience strongly preferred; fluency in restricted fund accounting, federal grant compliance, and single audit requirements. Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field required; MBA or CPA preferred. Strong candidates will also offer a proven track record of building and sustaining high‑performing finance teams, experience partnering closely with a CFO and executive leadership, and a demonstrated success embedding financial accountability and discipline across a complex, multi‑department organization. Compensation and Benefits Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. The salary range for this role is $150,000 - $170,000 with a generous benefits package. Equal Opportunity Statement Maryland Food Bank is an equal opportunity employer and strongly encourages applications from people of color, persons with disabilities, women, and LGBTQ+ applicants. #J-18808-Ljbffr
