Accounting Officer (Specialist)

Job Description and Duties

This position is located in the city of Sacramento .

Under the general supervision of the Accounting Administrator I (Supervisor), in the Accounts Receivable Unit, the Accounting Officer (Specialist), is responsible for utilizing technical expertise, interpersonal and analytical skills in the performance of accounting duties of moderate difficulty, often utilizing the Financial Information System for California (FI$Cal).  This position requires the Accounting Officer to maintain consistent and regular attendance, communicate effectively and professionally in dealing with the public and/or other employees. Develop and maintain knowledge and skills related to specific tasks, methodologies, and equipment. The incumbent will complete assignments in a timely and efficient manner and adhere to departmental and control agency policies and procedures. The incumbent will possess knowledge of the State Accounting process, governmental accounting and budgeting, principles of business management, principles of public finance and business law, and Federal regulations, laws and reporting requirements .

Working Conditions

The majority of the work will take place in one of the following locations with consumers, the public, colleagues, and other stakeholders: a DOR open office setting in a cubicle environment, offsite in the community, at events and various partner locations, and/or at an approved alternate work location. The incumbent must have the ability to work in an office setting for up to 40 hours per week and remain at a workstation for extended periods while utilizing a personal computer, peripherals, and other office equipment with or without accommodation. The incumbent will be working in an office setting with both natural and artificial lighting. Strong interpersonal skills are required to interact effectively with consumers, the public, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
