Description JOB SUMMARY The Equity and Human Resources Director provides strategic leadership and organizational oversight for human resources, equity, diversity, inclusion, and workplace culture. This position is responsible for developing and implementing equitable HR policies, ensuring compliance with employment law, overseeing employee relations and organizational culture, and embedding equity principles into hiring, compensation, leadership development, and organizational decision-making. The Director serves as a key advisor to executive leadership on workforce strategy, organizational change, and equity-centered practices to ensure a respectful, inclusive, and high-performing workplace.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS EQUITY:
JOB EXPECTATIONS/COMPETENCIES • Job Knowledge: Must possess and continually update requisite knowledge and understanding of assigned duties, responsibilities, policies, procedures and compliance requirements to perform the position.

• Member Focus: Must consistently exhibit proper conduct with ONA members through verbal and written communications. This includes listening, understanding member expectations/perspective and acknowledging and responding to concerns in a timely and helpful manner.
• Dependability/Accountability: Must follow through on assignments and take ownership of work. Must be reliable and responsible, and adhere to procedures, practices and work schedule.
• Collaboration/Teamwork: Must demonstrate cooperation and teamwork, and value and seek input and expertise of others. Must contribute to the team environment by working effectively with others on the team, and treat co-workers with respect, honesty and fairness. • Communication: Must communicate effectively and respectfully with co-workers and associates verbally and in writing. Must follow instructions and share information appropriately.

Requirements EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE A Bachelors Degree, and a minimum of 5 years' relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in a union environment strongly preferred. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND/OR REGISTRATIONS This position does not require any certificates, licenses, or registration but certification(s) in human resources are preferred. QUALIFICATIONS Ability to perform essential job duties with or without reasonable accommodation and without posing a direct threat to the safety or health of employees or others. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS Proficient in MS Office: Outlook, Word, Excel and Adobe Acrobat. Must be familiar with databases and basic office equipment. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential duties of this job. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS EQUITY:
- Coordinates with staff and executive leadership to develop, implement, and evaluate staff training and learning opportunities related to justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and a respectful workplace.
- Reviews policies and oversees efforts to ensure hiring practices, compensation and leadership development through an equity lens.
- Works collaboratively with leadership and staff to help ensure organizational practices and work culture reflect equity and inclusion values.
- Review policies and evaluate hiring practices, compensation, and leadership development through an equity lens and recommend and support implementation of improvements.
- Coordinates with staff and executive leadership to develop and implement staff training and learning opportunities related to justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and respectful workplace.
- Works collaboratively with leadership and staff to support accountability, consistency, and integration of organizational practices to reflect equity and inclusion values.
- Partners with executive leadership to develop and implement HR strategies aligned with organizational goals.
- Advises executive leadership on sensitive matters, including employee relations, performance, compensation, and legal risk.
- Develops, updates, and enforces HR policies and employee handbooks, and ensures consistent application of staff collective bargaining agreement (CBA).
- Responsible for tracking staff union grievance filings and assisting with Step responses.
- Participates in Labor Management Committee and collective bargaining with ONA staff union in a leadership role.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws (e.g. FMLA, ADA, FLSA, EEO, HIPAA) and manages audits, reporting requirements, and risk mitigation practices related to human resources.
- Manages employee leaves.
- Manages workers' compensation insurance and incident reporting procedures.
- Leads full-cycle recruitment: job scoping, job posting, sourcing, interviewing, selection and offers.
- Maintains and updates job descriptions for all organizational positions.
- Oversees onboarding and new-hire orientation.
- Serves as a trusted resource for employees and supervisors on HR matters.
- Conducts workplace investigations and resolves employee conflicts professionally and confidentially.
- Maintains a positive workplace environment through communications, recognition and wellness initiatives.
- Supports managers in addressing performance issues and creating development plans.
- Implements learning and development programs (training, leadership workshops, compliance training).
- Oversight of employee benefit program, including enrollment and employee communication.
- Conducts job evaluations and market compensation analysis.
- Maintains and optimizes HRIS systems and databases.
- Ensures data accuracy, reporting and secure handling of confidential personnel information.
- Oversees documentation, recordkeeping, and compliance files.
- Other duties as assigned.
