Post-Doc Research Associate - Arthur Lab

Position Summary The Arthur Lab seeks an enthusiastic and highly-motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to investigate interactions between the microbiota and intestinal disease, including inflammation, fibrosis and colorectal cancer. Utilizing germ‑free and gnotobiotic mice, the role involves experimental design, data analysis, and communication of results within a collaborative research team at UNC‑Chapel Hill. Responsibilities Conduct independent biomedical research, including project development, experimental design, data analysis/interpretation, and manuscript preparation. Manage lab resources, mentor graduate students and other trainees, and assist in grant writing. Present research findings at conferences and symposia. Work on projects such as defining microbial mechanisms driving inflammation‑associated intestinal fibrosis and identifying regulators of the microbial‑derived carcinogen colibactin. Operate and maintain germ‑free mouse models of intestinal inflammation and cancer, including necropsy procedures. Integrate microbiology, immunology, and molecular biology approaches with multi‑omics technologies (RNA‑seq, spatial profiling). Minimum Education and Experience Requirements PhD in immunology, microbiology, or a related biomedical science. Experience performing in vitro and/or in vivo biological experiments. Strong record of research productivity and interest in host:microbiome interactions relevant to digestive diseases. Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated knowledge and experimental expertise in mouse models of infection, intestinal inflammation, and/or cancer. Experience in molecular microbiology and tissue culture. Proficiency in working with commensal bacteria, intestine and stool samples. Benefits Comprehensive medical and vision coverage.
