The Big Picture

Our client is a growing, mission-driven nonprofit organization working at the intersection of education, workforce and community impact. Through partnerships with public, private and community organizations, the organization develops and supports programs designed to create meaningful, long-term impact.

As the organization continues to grow, so does the opportunity to expand and diversify its funding. They’re looking for a Grant Writer who can take real ownership of that effort, from finding the right opportunities to getting strong, competitive proposals across the finish line.

This isn’t a role where grant opportunities are simply handed to you with all the pieces neatly packaged. You’ll proactively identify funding opportunities, determine which ones are worth pursuing, figure out what’s needed and bring together the right people and information to make it happen.

If you’re a strong writer who also happens to be an excellent researcher, organizer and project manager, this could be a great fit.

What You’ll Tackle

• Build the pipeline. Research and identify foundation, corporate, government and other public and private funding opportunities that align with the organization’s programs and priorities.
• Find the right opportunities. Evaluate prospective grants for eligibility, strategic fit, competitiveness, funding potential and organizational capacity.
• Own the application process. Take grants from initial opportunity assessment through final submission, creating timelines, tracking requirements and keeping everyone moving toward the deadline.
• Write compelling proposals. Develop grant applications, letters of inquiry, concept papers, narratives and supporting materials that clearly communicate the organization’s work, outcomes and impact.
• Go get the information you need. Work across leadership, program and finance teams to gather program details, data, budgets, outcomes, staffing information, timelines and required documentation.
• Coordinate the moving pieces. Manage internal contributors, application requirements, letters of support, budgets, attachments, reviews and approvals.
• Create some infrastructure. Build and maintain a grant calendar, funding pipeline and library of organizational information, program descriptions, data and reusable proposal content.
• Help grants make the handoff. When funding is awarded, help ensure program, finance and operations team understand the commitments, deliverables, budgets and reporting requirements.
• Keep an eye on what comes next. Track reporting deadlines, renewals and future funding opportunities, and support interim and final reports as needed.

What You Bring  

• Demonstrated success writing grants and developing competitive proposals for nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, public agencies or other mission-driven organizations.
• Experience managing the full grant development process, not just the writing component.
• Exceptional writing and editing skills with the ability to take complex information and turn it into a clear, persuasive story.
• Strong research skills and experience identifying prospective funding opportunities.
• Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple applications, contributors and deadlines at once.
• Experience interpreting RFPs, NOFOs and other funding requirements and translating them into an actionable application plan.
• Comfort working with grant budgets, program metrics, outcomes and supporting documentation.
• Experience with government and foundation grants is strongly preferred.
• Experience in healthcare, workforce development, education, economic development or other multi-stakeholder environments is a plus.

Detail-oriented. Deadlines, attachments, character limits, budget requirements and submission instructions don’t slip through the cracks.

Collaborative. You’re comfortable working with executives, program leaders, finance teams and external partners, and you know how to get what you need without creating unnecessary work for everyone else.

Location: Remote first organization, but must be located in Northern San Joaquin Valley or Sacramento Areas Compensation: $75,000-$85,000 Benefits: Mental, Dental, 401k
