Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Orientation and Mobility or Special Education, Certification as a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS), and 1+ years Orientation and Mobility Specialist experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

This contract opportunity allows you to work closely with K-12 learners, helping foster confidence and access to their school community. You’ll provide vital orientation and mobility instruction, ensuring students with visual impairments can navigate safely and effectively.

Key Qualifications:

• Certification as an Orientation & Mobility Specialist (OMS)
• Active O&M Specialist license required
• Experience working with K-12 students with diverse learning needs
• Strong knowledge of mobility techniques, assistive technology, and individualized instruction plans
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and record-keeping skills
• Ability to approach challenges with patience, adaptability, and resourcefulness

Role Responsibilities:

• Conduct individual assessments to determine students’ orientation and mobility needs
• Develop and implement personalized O&M training plans for students across elementary, middle, and high school
• Instruct students in safe, effective travel skills both indoors and throughout campus environments
• Collaborate with IEP teams, teachers, and families to support student goals and ensure integration into all school activities
• Monitor progress, maintain detailed records, and participate in IEP/504 meetings
• Provide guidance on the use of mobility devices and assistive technology
• Offer professional insight to school staff regarding mobility and accessibility needs
