Assistant Controller

Location: Melbourne, FL, US, 32935 Job Summary The Assistant Controller leads and strengthens the organization’s accounting function by monitoring department policies and procedures, recommending improvements, and serving as a key resource across all aspects of accounting. The incumbent will manage the preparation of daily, monthly, annual, and other periodic financial statements, tax reports, and required governmental filings—ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with GAAP and applicable government regulations. The position partners closely with senior management to help establish and implement major goals and objectives, deliver operational reports and analyses, and conduct cost, ratio, and trend analysis to support sound decision‑making. The incumbent may also serve as a liaison with external auditors and regulatory authorities while ensuring accurate internal and external recording and reporting of financial transactions. Job Responsibilities Monitor department policies and procedures and recommend improvements; consult with the Senior Management team; participate in establishing and implementing major goals and objectives; and serve as a resource in all aspects of accounting Manage the preparation of daily, monthly, annual, and other periodic financial statements and tax reports Ensure that external document submissions and filings are accurate and timely Ensure that accounting records and reports are in compliance with GAAP and government regulations May serve as a liaison between the company and external auditors and regulatory authorities Complete reports and analyses of departmental and area operations as requested by senior management Conduct cost analysis, ratio and trend analysis, and other comparative examinations as appropriate Review, analyze, and interpret financial and budgetary reports (i.e., annual financial forecasts); provide reports required by governmental regulations Manage the assignment, direction, and evaluation of personnel to ensure efficient operations Ensure accurate internal and external recording and reporting of financial transactions Ensure that accounting activities are in accordance with established legal, regulatory, and Company procedures Establish accounting plans, goals, and policies that are consistent with established company-wide goals Ensure that policies are in accordance with evolving regulations, legal requirements, and industry trends Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization Perform special assignments as requested by senior management Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. CPA or Master’s degree is preferred. 7+ years of full‑cycle, general ledger accounting required. 2+ years working in accounting in a defense environment strongly preferred. 2+ years of leadership experience or an equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities for leadership. 2+ years of SOX experience required. Thorough knowledge of financial and accounting practices and procedures. Understanding of government regulations strongly preferred. Understanding of government reporting requirements preferred.
