Accountant

Summary

The Accountant supports the Accounting Department by preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting, with a focus on cost accounting for production, labor, material, and overhead. This position monitors budgets and variances, analyzes purchase price variances and standard costs, and partners with operations, purchasing, and leadership to identify cost trends and improve efficiency, all while ensuring compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Prepare and maintain accurate journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
2. Assist with month-end and year-end close related to cost accounting.
3. Prepare detailed financial and operational reports for management.
4. Support budgeting and forecasting processes and monitor variances.
5. Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies.
6. Analyze and monitor production, labor, material, and overhead costs.
7. Analyze purchase price variances (PPV) and investigate root causes.
8. Prepare and maintain standard costs and conduct variance analysis.
9. Identify cost trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for savings.
10. Support internal and external audits as needed.
11. Support development and tracking of key cost accounting metrics.

Required Skills and Abilities

1. Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
2. Working knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
3. Ability to analyze and explain balance sheet and income statement activity.
4. Strong analytical skills with the ability to investigate variances and identify root causes.
5. Ability to clearly communicate accounting and financial concepts to non-finance stakeholders.
6. Strong collaboration skills across accounting, operations, purchasing, and leadership.

Education and Experience

1. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
2. 2-5 years of cost accounting or manufacturing accounting experience preferred.
